Make a difference when it matters most. Join a Team where rapid responses can make a lasting impact. We are seeking two full‑time (37 hours) dedicated and passionate Social Workers to deliver high‑quality services to vulnerable children, young people, and their families/carers in line with statutory legislation, council procedures, and departmental policies.
This role plays a vital part in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in need, those at risk of harm, subject to child protection planning, involved in family proceedings, or who are looked after. This is a critical out‑of‑hours safeguarding role, requiring you to respond to urgent situations outside of normal working hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and bank holidays. Across your working week, you will operate a varied shift pattern which typically includes a combination of daytime duties within the Integrated Front Door (IFD) and out‑of‑hours work during evenings and weekends, delivered through a structured three‑week rolling rota.
Your Role
In this role, you will lead the response to serious safeguarding concerns, making timely decisions to protect children and young people at risk. You will carry out urgent statutory interventions under the Children Act 1989, including Section 47 enquiries, home visits, and strategy discussions, while acting swiftly to assess risk, implement safeguarding measures, and ensure immediate safety. Working in a fast‑paced environment, you will use your professional judgement to manage crisis situations effectively and proportionately.
Our Team
Within the team, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive. We are committed to delivering tailored, inclusive support that promotes independence and maximises potential. Social work practice is highly valued within our service, supported by skilled, knowledgeable, and compassionate leaders and managers. You will be joining a team built on pride and passion, with high aspirations for children and families and a commitment to empowering them to thrive.
Benefits
As part of your RewardNEL package, you will have a generous leave entitlement (including bank holidays) and enrolment into a local government pension. You will also have access to our exclusive RewardNEL platform, which includes a variety of salary‑sacrifice schemes such as Cycle2Work, Holiday Extra and Tusker (Car Lease), discounts at local coffee shops and bars, direct access to in‑house wellbeing support, free and discounted local car parking, and instant access to new savings at major retailers, entertainment and hotels. NELC staff can also benefit from flexible working and excellent training and development opportunities and a fostering friendly scheme.
Equality Statement
We regularly review data to ensure our recruitment processes are fair, transparent, and promote equal opportunities for all. We also have an in‑house Equalities Champions Group that works to promote and embed inclusivity in the workplace, helping us identify areas where we can take positive action and make the organisation a safe space for colleagues to feel connected.
