Community Accounting Plus is a registered charity based in Nottingham, which provides a wide range of financial, management and accounting services. We support charities, CIC’s, voluntary and community organisations so that they in turn can deliver better services to the communities they serve.
Working both in our office in Nottingham and from home, with occasional travel to clients, the role is the delivery of accountancy services with some bookkeeping and training. This post will be part-time 21 hours per week.
The starting salary for this post (FTE) is £30,385 (full time is 35 hours). We work a system where in addition to any inflationary salary increases, there will be annual increments over the first three years and we also offer a very attractive rate of employer pension contributions to all our staff.
Accountable to: Accounts Team Lead
Purpose: The delivery of accountancy and bookkeeping services, and training services.
Remuneration: The salary for this post is determined by the Trustees and reviewed on an annual basis. CA Plus makes a contribution of between 6 and 9%, depending on personal contributions, into a personal pension or other defined contribution pension.
Main terms: Standard office hours apply with some requirement for work outside normal working hours. The precise standard hours will be agreed with the Chief Executive. A flexi-time system is in operation. Holiday entitlement commences at 23 days pro rata rising to 28 after 3 years of service. The post holder will be based in the CA Plus office in Nottingham for the first 3 months with thereafter a mix of office and home working.
Primary Duties:
- To prepare and independently examine the financial statements for client groups, including simpler accrual accounts.
- To deliver bookkeeping services, including for the more complex situations, such as VAT (with support), and support other members of the bookkeeping team.
- To support individual clients in aspects of financial management, primarily by giving support by phone with bookkeeping issues.
- To act as an initial contact point for a number of specified clients.
Other duties:
- To maintain an up to date knowledge of accounting issues and contribute to the development of these services.
- To participate in training and development as required within this service area.
- To assist in maintaining and developing the quality of all procedures and processes this service area.
- To ensure that all work is carried out in line with relevant legislation and CA Plus policies and procedures, and to contribute to the development of CA Plus.
- To act as an effective team member and promote mutual respect amongst colleagues.
- To carry out other work in line with the above primary duties with the agreement of the Chief Executive.
Person spec:
- A thorough understanding and appreciation of accounting and financial management.
- A good level of skill and experience in dealing with computerised and online systems for accounts maintenance and production.
- Ability to explain accounts and liaise with ‘non-accounting’ staff and/or volunteers, giving advice and training to individuals and groups.
- Experience of charity accounting including a good knowledge of the charities SORP and accounting for smaller charities, taxation and VAT.
- Bookkeeping, academic or accounting qualifications up to AAT level.
- A commitment to the voluntary sector and a commitment to working with people and promoting mutual respect in diverse team and community settings.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Good personal organisation, ability to work on own initiative as well as following set procedures and working in conjunction with others.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and a commitment to ensuring that all work is carried out legally and in line with organisational policies and procedures.
- As this role will involve travel to clients’ premises, you may need the use of a vehicle.
