The role!

Position: Recreation Assistant

Location: Wakefield, MA

Pay rate: $19 per hour

Hours: Part-time, 2-10 hours per week. Schedule may vary.

Summary & Responsibilities

The Recreation Assistant supports the program lead in various recreation activities, including some direct care. Flexibility to work late afternoons, evenings, and weekends is required.

  • Assist in running recreation programs such as social outings, arts and crafts, sports, fitness, dance, swimming, bowling, cooking, etc.
  • Supervise participants, including small groups and individuals, providing 1:1 support if needed, and some personal care responsibilities.
  • Coordinate with community resources like YMCA, schools, churches, city recreation, and Special Olympics at various levels.
  • Provide direct support and contact with individuals and their caretakers.
  • Take leadership in emergencies, including calling emergency services and providing transportation as needed.
  • Assist individuals with personal care to help them reach their personal goals.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; BA in Therapeutic Recreation or related field preferred.
  • At least one year supporting adults with developmental disabilities or experience in recreation/sports leadership required.
  • Passion and dedication to supporting people are essential.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a clean driving record required.
  • Must pass background and reference checks.
