We are seeking a capable and dependable Field Engineer to deliver high-quality IT infrastructure installations and support across customer sites. This is a hands-on, field-based role involving the installation, configuration and commissioning of network and IT systems, as well as conducting wireless and physical site surveys to ensure solutions are designed and deployed to a high technical standard.

The role requires a practical, detail-focused engineer who is confident working independently, comfortable in customer environments, and able to adapt to a variety of sites and technologies. This position is well suited to a mid-level engineer or a strong junior engineer with solid hands-on experience looking to further develop their field and project delivery skills.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Install, configure and commission IT and network infrastructure, including servers, switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points and structured cabling.
  • Carry out wireless site surveys (pre and post installation) to assess coverage, capacity, interference and overall performance.
  • Conduct physical site surveys to evaluate infrastructure readiness, including power, cabling, mounting locations and network requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, network and connectivity issues during installation and post-deployment.
  • Configure, test and validate wired and wireless networks to ensure stability, performance and reliability.
  • Produce clear and accurate documentation, including installation records, site survey findings, network diagrams and technical reports.
  • Work closely with project managers, network engineers and customers to deliver projects on time and to agreed specifications.
  • Adhere to health, safety and security procedures while working on customer premises.
  • Provide basic user support and technical guidance where required during installations.
  • Travel to customer sites nationwide, including working away from home as required by project demands.
Skills and Requirements
  • Proven experience as an IT Field Engineer, Network Technician or similar hands-on technical role.
  • Strong practical experience installing and commissioning IT and network equipment.
  • Experience conducting wireless site surveys and using relevant survey tools.
  • Good working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, VLANs, switching technologies and Wi-Fi standards.
  • Ability to read, understand and work from network diagrams and technical documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Confident communication skills with the ability to work effectively in customer-facing environments.
  • Ability to work independently, manage workloads and prioritise multiple site visits.
  • Knowledge of structured cabling standards and best practice.
  • Experience working within commercial or enterprise IT environments.
  • Familiarity with enterprise networking and wireless solutions such as Cisco, Aruba, Ubiquiti, Meraki and Fortinet.
Working Conditions
  • Field-based role with regular travel to customer and operational sites.
  • The role involves manual handling, including lifting, positioning and installing equipment within racks and ceiling spaces, in line with health and safety requirements.
  • Working away from home with overnight stays will be required.
  • Out-of-hours working and occasional weekend work may be necessary to meet operational and customer requirements.
