A high-growth UK financial services institution is seeking an experienced Indirect Tax Manager to take ownership of VAT across a complex and rapidly evolving group. This is a rare opportunity to step into a hands-on, commercially focused tax role within a business that is scaling at pace, offering genuine influence over strategy, product development and operational decision-making. The role sits within a well-regarded finance function and works closely with senior stakeholders across the organisation.
The Role
You will have end-to-end responsibility for indirect tax matters, acting as the primary VAT specialist for the business. The position combines technical ownership with advisory exposure, making it ideal for a strong VAT professional looking to move into an in-house environment with breadth and visibility.
Key responsibilities include:
- Full ownership of UK VAT compliance across the group, including oversight of VAT returns and group structures
- Maintenance and ongoing development of the Partial Exemption Special Method (PESM)
- Providing clear, practical and commercially focused VAT advice to senior stakeholders on transactions, new products and change initiatives
- Monitoring legislative and regulatory developments and assessing business impact
- Acting as a key liaison point with HMRC and external advisors
- Supporting finance-led projects including systems improvements, controls and process enhancements
The Candidate
This role will suit a technically strong indirect tax professional who enjoys operating close to the business and influencing outcomes.
You are likely to have:
- ACA / CTA qualification (or equivalent)
- Training from a Big 4 or leading tax advisory firm
- Strong UK VAT experience, ideally with exposure to financial services
- Experience of partial exemption and VAT grouping
- The confidence to engage with non-tax stakeholders and provide pragmatic advice
- A proactive mindset, comfortable operating in a fast-paced and evolving environment
Why Apply?
- High-impact role within a growing, ambitious financial services business
- Broad remit with genuine ownership and stakeholder exposure
- Excellent remuneration: up to £100,000 base salary plus 20% bonus
- Hybrid and flexible working culture
- Strong benefits package and long-term career progression
This opportunity is well suited to someone looking to transition from practice or to elevate their in-house career within a business that values tax as a strategic partner rather than a back-office function.
