The Cook, under the direction of designated management and supervisors, will prepare, present, store, and dispatch all food products, including dining room, bistro (where located), marketing and catering events, and resident tray service where required. Responsibilities include following menu specifications within time limits, adhering to health and safety regulations, and maintaining sanitation standards.

Job Duties:

  • Ensure all menu items are prepared and served according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assure presentation standards are met.
  • Prepare meals based on menus, nutritional programs, and individual plans.
  • Maintain quality of meals regarding taste, presentation, and dietary requirements.
  • Ensure food safety and sanitation, including cleaning and proper storage.
  • Work efficiently and consistently to prepare meals on time.
  • Meet residents\’ dietary needs and prepare correct quantities.
  • Utilize kitchen equipment during food preparation.
  • Stay productive and prepare for future needs.
  • Be flexible and volunteer for open shifts as needed.
  • Follow reporting procedures for accidents and incidents.
  • Adhere to all safety and health regulations.
  • Maintain inventory levels and assist with training new employees.
  • Serve food in proper portions and temperatures.
  • Report policy infractions and arrive punctually.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of cooking experience.
  • Experience in the retirement home industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of food trends, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, email).
  • Attention to detail, time management, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
