The Landscape Team Leader leads a landscape team and trains personnel in the proper use of equipment, materials, and procedures to maintain the campus landscape. This role collaborates with Landscaping Supervisors and Leadership to establish priorities, schedules, and quality control regimens. This position is designated as essential personnel for emergency closings.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a Landscape Team and train personnel in the proper use of equipment, materials/supplies applications and the proper procedures for maintaining the landscape to present a neat, clean, and well-maintained appearance.
- Coordinate with Landscaping Supervisors and Leadership to establish priorities, schedules, and quality control regimens.
- Perform grounds maintenance and operate grounds maintenance equipment (e.g., truck riding mowers, push mowers, tractors, and small powered equipment).
- Implement horticulture practices such as mowing, planting, litter removal, irrigation, fertilization, pesticide application, and tree care.
Qualifications:
- Considerable knowledge of maintaining and/or planting trees, shrubs, and flowers; trimming, spraying, mowing, removing trash and debris, weeding, fertilizing, sweeping, raking, cultivating, digging, watering, snow/ice removal, and spreading salt and/or sand.
- Knowledge of pruning different species of shrubs and trees; operation of grounds equipment.
- Working knowledge of leadership principles, including scheduling and planning work.
- Working knowledge of pesticides; basic mechanical knowledge to recognize equipment malfunctions.
- Basic knowledge of insects, diseases, weed identification, and plant material.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize irrigation malfunctions.
- Demonstrated ability to work in extreme heat or cold; ability to lift/move/carry 50 pounds many times per week.
- Ability to read and write; ability to work independently or with others.
