The Department of Physics at Norfolk State University (NSU) invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in Quantum Science, with an emphasis on superconducting quantum circuits and devices. The department offers a B.S. in Physics, an M.S. in Materials Science.
We seek candidates with expertise in the design, fabrication, modeling, and characterization of superconducting circuits for quantum sensing and quantum information processing. Areas of interest include circuit quantum electrodynamics, Josephson-junction-based qubits, superconducting microwave resonators, quantum measurement and control, and hybrid systems coupling superconducting circuits to spin, photonic, or phononic excitations. Applicants should submit a research statement outlining their proposed research at NSU, the experimental or theoretical approaches they would use, and the anticipated contributions to superconducting quantum circuits and their applications.
Successful candidates will be expected to establish externally funded research programs, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor students, and collaborate with NSU faculty in quantum science and engineering. They will also be expected to develop national and international collaborations and contribute to the development of a new graduate program in quantum science and engineering.
