Tidewater Community College seeks applications for part-time Custodian positions at the Norfolk Campus for the evening shift, 6:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. with rotating Saturdays. Must be able to report to work during inclement weather and assist in snow removal from entries and walkways and application of snow-melt when required.

This position will provide a full range of custodial/housekeeping services for college facilities to include, but not limited to:

  • Trash removal
  • Vacuuming
  • Mopping
  • Dusting
  • Sweeping
  • Floor stripping and waxing
  • Carpet cleaning
  • Window cleaning
  • Black/white-board cleaning

Provide room set-up/take-down assistance and light bulb replacement as assigned. Perform other cleaning tasks as assigned. Maintain and demonstrate good attendance habits. This position, designated as an essential position, must be able to report to work and fulfill responsibilities of the position in the event of college/campus closure due to weather or emergent conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of custodial operations and industry standards.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of janitorial, custodial, housekeeping services, and sanitizing techniques.
  • Ability to climb ladders without assistance.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Skills in using housekeeping equipment such as vacuum cleaner, buffers and scrubbing machine.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures, particularly as they relate to equipment operation, chemical use, and trash/recycling.
