Responsibilities:
- Teach all aspects of occupational health and safety and its application in the workplace.
- Teach safety standards and the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), its rules and regulations (OSHA 10).
- Deliver instruction that may include two sections meeting on Thursday mornings during the fall semester.
- Augment full-time teaching faculty with qualified part-time instructors to enhance the student learning process.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Five years of general industry safety experience.
- A college degree in occupational safety and health, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation may be substituted for two years of experience.
- OSHA Trainer certification (OSHA 500) will also be considered.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.
Additional Considerations:
- Previous teaching or training experience.
General Information:
- Adjunct teaching limits: a maximum of 8 credit hours in the summer semester, 12 credit hours in the fall semester, and 12 credit hours in the spring semester. These limits refer to total credit hours taught within Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS). Additional restrictions may apply depending on other positions within VCCS.
