Task:
The Vocational Trainee scheme has been developed to replicate the “Kaufmann” apprenticeship-based training programmes which are well renowned in Germany. The scheme provides trainees with the opportunity to work full time, whilst studying towards a degree. Upon joining, you will be assigned to a business area within Commerzbank, where you will stay for the duration of the scheme (three and a half years).
During the first two years, you will study towards a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business (Accounting and Finance) at the European College of Business and Management (ECBM). Upon successful completion of the HND, you will study for a further year and a half to top-up to a BA (Hons) degree in Business Management. The BA (Hons) is provided by ECBM and is accredited by the University of South Wales.
Overview of Programme:
- Three and a half years structured programme working full-time whilst studying towards an HND and degree
- Qualifications gained: BA (Hons) degree in Business Management
- Typically attend College for 3 days of every month
- Study leave: eligible for up to 5 days per academic year (in the first 2 years) and up to 7.5 days during the last year and a half
- Challenging work on a diverse range of projects
- On-the-job learning, with a dedicated team, and a buddy to support you
- A host of transferable business skills
- All college fees are paid for by the bank on top of your basic salary. Other benefits include 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), selling and buying of annual leave, private healthcare, life cover and a non-contributory pension scheme
- Trainees start at Commerzbank end of September 2025
- Assessment centres are planned to take place in April 2025

Capital Markets
- The Capital Markets team within Corporate Clients is dedicated to delivering best-in-class capital market related solutions to corporates, financial institutions and public sector clients. With its client-centric approach, the team provides primary and secondary capital markets solutions. Primary markets solutions include advisory, structuring, syndication and execution expertise across all asset classes, both on debt and equity capital markets, backed by an extensive distribution network of international investors and other market participants. Our secondary markets offering comprises FX, rates and commodities related investment and risk management solutions, incorporating digitisation of business and trading processes into our service range.
- Capital Markets accompanies its clients on their path of sustainable transformation. As strategic partner, the Executive area promotes sustainable finance products and services.
- As a fully integrated department, Capital Markets is closely aligned with Corporate Clients product specialists and relationship managers, as well as with the cluster delivery organisation
- The executive area Capital Markets comprises a global team of 450 capital market professionals based in Germany and internationally, namely in Europe (London, Madrid, Milan, Moscow, Paris, Prague, Zurich), America (New York) and Asia (Singapore, Shanghai, Tokyo). Its expertise is continuously widely acknowledged in many awards.
Compliance
Our business objectives include advising the business units as well as the early identification and proactive management of risks arising from money laundering/terrorist financing, sanctions/embargoes, fraud/bribery/corruption, markets compliance requirements and the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG).
International Corporates
International Corporates London branch is responsible for the relationship management of UK listed large corporates and relationship support for German and other inbound companies with non UK parent companies. The outbound client base is mainly made up for FTSE 100 and FTSE250 listed companies, with a small number of global commodity trading companies. The inbound desk has c. 500 clients, mainly offering DDA (current accounts) and electronic banking services.
SMBC
Segment Management & Business Control (CC-SMBC) provides the foundations for the Corporate Clients segment to succeed in delivering value accretive financial performance. CC-SMBC is “first point of contact” within the Corporate Clients segment and serves as a connector both within the segment and towards the overall organization. We shape the Corporate Clients segment by owning the business model and by enabling, supporting and tracking the implementation of winning strategies. We challenge sales, clusters, central functions and operations and we also steer the resource allocation within Corporate Clients.
Lending
The Lending division is responsible for the management of the Regional Lending portfolio and for all Specialised Lending Products of the Corporate Clients segment.
This includes defining and executing CC's lending strategy, pricing, portfolio management and RWA control in close cooperation with the Relationship Management Functions and Group Risk Management. A key focus of the Lending division is the optimisation of RWA efficiency for the Corporate Client segment overall.
