A leading international engineering and industrial services provider is seeking a skilled Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of a major engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) project (£100m+), based in Hull. This position plays a key role in the commercial management of a multi-disciplinary scheme, with responsibilities spanning cost control, contract management, and financial performance throughout the project lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will bring significant experience on major construction projects, ideally with exposure to mechanical, structural, and electrical packages. Expertise in NEC4 Option B contracts and a thorough understanding of remeasurement principles are essential. The Senior Quantity Surveyor will report to the project’s Commercial Lead and will be a central part of the team, responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, managing commercial risk, and driving best practices across all phases of the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage commercial processes including forecasting, cost reporting, and financial analysis.
- Lead the administration of NEC4 Option B contracts and manage the remeasurement of BOQs.
- Produce month-end WIP & journal returns, rolling forecasts, and financial updates.
- Support preparation of monthly board reports and provide input into commercial registers (CEs, EWs, plant, sales invoices).
- Conduct value analysis and assist in change management, including compensation events and quotations.
- Liaise with clients regarding payment applications, queries, and disallowed costs.
- Support the Commercial Manager with project board documentation and cost tracking.
- Oversee subcontractor management processes, from tender to final account.
- Provide input into innovation strategies aimed at improving project margins.
- Ensure alignment with governance standards and contribute to the delivery of project targets.
Required Experience and Skills
- Demonstrable experience on major construction or infrastructure projects.
- In-depth understanding of NEC4 Option B contracts.
- Skilled in cost control, forecasting, and contract administration.
- Proficient in standard methods of measurement (SMM7, NRM2).
- Working knowledge of SAP and Power BI for cost analysis.
- Familiarity with Primavera P6 or equivalent planning tools.
- Strong contractual awareness and commercial acumen.
- Effective communicator with excellent stakeholder engagement skills.
- Self-starter with a high level of attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
