A leading civil engineering contractor with a strong Yorkshire presence is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial delivery of multiple civil engineering and highways schemes across West and South Yorkshire. Rather than being tied to a single project, this role offers flexibility. The successful candidate may work across one or several live schemes, depending on location, experience, and workload. Projects are typically well-resourced, locally delivered, and structured to allow surveyors to take meaningful commercial ownership.
The business forms part of a nationally recognised contractor group with a £1.5bn forward order book, award-winning delivery credentials, and long-term local authority frameworks secured well beyond 2028.
The Projects
You will be involved in the commercial management of a portfolio of secured schemes across West Yorkshire, Dewsbury, Huddersfield, and South Yorkshire, aligned to your location where possible. Typical project scope includes:
- Public realm, active travel and urban regeneration works
- Highways upgrades, junction improvements and road realignment
- Cycleways, footpaths, pedestrianisation and station access schemes
- Two-stage design and build projects under NEC and ECI
Project values typically £5m to £15m+
The Role
This position offers broad commercial exposure across the project lifecycle, including:
- Commercial management of one or more live civil engineering schemes
- Subcontract procurement, tendering, contract administration and payments
- Applications for payment, valuations, forecasting and CVRs
- Managing compensation events, early warnings and change under NEC
- Supporting pre-construction pricing and early contractor involvement
- Working closely with Senior QSs and Commercial Managers while supporting junior team members
Who This Would Suit
An experienced Quantity Surveyor ready to operate with increased autonomy or a Senior QS seeking locally based work without national travel. Strong NEC experience, particularly Options A and C, within civils, highways or infrastructure. Comfortable managing multiple packages and priorities across live schemes.
What’s on Offer
Long term, locally secured workload across Yorkshire. Clear and supported route to Senior Quantity Surveyor. Hybrid working with two days remote after probation. Competitive salary, car allowance, annual bonus and pension. Stability of a major contractor with the culture of a regional business.
