We are looking for a highly detail-driven Transport Manager to take ownership of a small but busy fleet operation. This role is heavily compliance-focused and would suit someone who genuinely thrives on getting the details right; attention to detail is not just important here, it's absolutely critical.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day compliance, safety, and legal operation of around 20 trucks and their drivers, ensuring everything is maintained, recorded, and audit-ready at all times.
Important: This role is not transport planning led. There is no route or load planning involved unless you actively want to take that on. The core focus is compliance, safety, and record-keeping.
The Role
As Transport Manager, you will ensure the operation fully complies with Operator Licence requirements, DVSA standards, and Traffic Commissioner expectations. You will be the go-to person for all things transport compliance, keeping vehicles, drivers, and systems in line with regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Fleet & Vehicle Compliance
- Ensure all vehicles and trailers are maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition
- Manage PMI schedules, MOTs, plating, tachograph calibration, and defect rectification
- Oversee daily walkaround checks and defect reporting
- Liaise with maintenance providers and authorise repairs
- Drivers & Compliance
- Ensure drivers hold valid licences, CPC, and right-to-work documentation
- Manage driver inductions, training, and ongoing compliance monitoring
- Monitor infringements and support corrective actions
- Promote a strong culture of safety and legal compliance
- Drivers Hours & Tachographs
- Ensure full compliance with Drivers Hours and Working Time Directive rules
- Manage tachograph downloads, analysis, and record-keeping
- Investigate breaches and maintain evidence of remedial actions
- Operator Licence Management
- Maintain full compliance with Operator Licence undertakings
- Manage fleet size and operating centres in line with licence authority
- Act as the main point of contact for DVSA and enforcement bodies
- Support inspections, audits, and any regulatory reviews
- Administration & Records
- Maintain accurate, auditable records across all compliance areas
- Ensure documentation is retained correctly and is inspection-ready at all times
Hours & Salary
This role could suit an experienced Transport Manager working around 5 hours per day. We are ideally looking for 30-42 hours per week. Salary up to Β£40,000 per year full-time, pro rata depending on hours worked.
