Join our Energy & Carbon Division as an Energy & Procurement Trading Analyst and play a key role in monitoring, executing, and analysing trades across electricity and natural gas markets. This is a unique opportunity to work at the heart of UK energy procurement, directly influencing trading strategy and delivering value to customers.

The Energy & Procurement Trading Analyst is central to LASER\’s trading operations, ensuring that customers receive the best possible outcomes in volatile energy markets. By tracking market fundamentals, executing trades, and providing in-depth analysis, you\’ll help shape purchasing strategies and support the delivery of high-quality, data-driven energy solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor UK and European energy market fundamentals, including supply/demand and geopolitical influences.
  2. Execute wholesale trades via supplier optimisation desks and accurately record transactions.
  3. Actively manage traded positions to maximise customer value within agreed risk policies.
  4. Provide analysis and insight at weekly market meetings to inform purchasing decisions.
  5. Review import/export forecasts to ensure tradable volumes align with customer needs.
  6. Maintain strong partnerships with framework suppliers and ensure timely operational delivery.
  7. Deliver trading intelligence and analysis to support customer strategy meetings and governance panels.
  8. Support the development of new product opportunities to expand LASER\’s services.
  9. Assist in maintaining software solutions for clear reporting and trade recording.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in energy wholesale trading, or a related environment, including execution and settlement of contracts.
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes and public sector purchasing legislations.
  • Ability to analyse large data sets and present findings to support business objectives.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft solutions such as Excel, Power BI, Power Query and Power Automate.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • A curious, self-motivated and collaborative approach to problem solving.
