Your Impact:
We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead one of our InStore teams through people and technical leadership with a dedication to mentorship, knowledge sharing, cultivating belonging, and collaboration. InStore is an application and collection of micro‑frontends and microservices that allow you to run in physical, shopper‑present locations such as retail stores, kiosks, service desks, or pop‑up shops. The team enables seamless physical payments using various payment methods, while managing refunds across channels and more such capabilities that truly unify commerce for commercetools customers.
- Responsible for the people and culture in your team: You are vital for making your team a better place by growing your people and investing in your team’s health, motivation, career, culture, and team building. You foster a culture of mutual constructive feedback and support in your team and that everyone feels safe to express their ideas and suggestions. You conduct great 1‑1 with your engineers.
- Responsible for the delivery and the processes of your team: You are crucial for getting things rolling and ensuring a smooth delivery. You are removing blockers and seeking process improvements collaboratively with your team and your Product Manager. Champion our tech vision and consult the engineers accordingly. Collaborative with Engineering Managers of other teams, Tech Leads, People Business Partner, Head of Engineering, VP and CTO.
This role is hybrid, with three days a week spent in our London office.
What Sets You Apart:

- Experience as a manager of software engineers in a distributed product team.
- An engineering background ideally in building full stack applications with TypeScript including writing APIs and Frontends consuming them.
- Familiarity with different testing approaches such as unit, integration and End‑to‑End testing of full stack applications.
- Experience with CI/CD and operating systems in production including knowledge around metrics and observability.
- Capable of hands‑on coding where possible, software architecture, and system design.
- Track record and passion for growing, coaching, and mentoring your team.
- An excellent understanding of agile software development methodologies, best practices, and tools.
- Excellent communication skills and an empathetic and self‑reflective mindset.
- Fluent written and spoken English skills to work in an international environment.
- Commitment to knowledge sharing and learning from everyone around you about leadership and new technologies.
- AI Aptitude: A genuine curiosity for using AI tools to work smarter and more effectively, paired with a drive to learn and put them into practice in your role.
Nice to Have:
- Experience integrating, implementing, and supporting any one major PSP provider/gift card processor such as Adyen, Stripe, Paypal Braintree, Worldpay, GlobalPay, GiveX, Clutch, Elavon, or Savvy.
- Experience in the commerce industry.
- Experience with industry standard API Authentication/Authorization, including OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML2.
