At CoMind, we are developing a non-invasive neuromonitoring technology that will result in a new era of clinical brain monitoring. In joining us, you will be helping to create cutting-edge technologies that will improve how we diagnose and treat brain disorders, ultimately improving and saving the lives of patients across the world.
The Optical Engineering team develops and characterises the optical systems at the heart of CoMind's non-invasive brain monitoring technology. From light source selection and optical component design through to system-level characterisation and sensor integration, the team works at the boundary of photonics, biomedical engineering, and precision instrumentation, directly determining the signal quality and reliability that power CoMind's clinical algorithms.
As an Optical Test Engineer, you will design and execute test plans, build characterisation rigs, develop SOPs, and translate complex measurement data into clear, actionable reports, working closely with research, engineering and manufacturers across the product lifecycle. At CoMind, all team members work at least 4 days per week from our new Kings Cross offices, plus a flexible work-from-home day.
Responsibilities:
- Design and execute characterisation test plans for optical and optoelectronic components, sub-systems, and complete device assemblies, from initial concept through to manufacturing release.
- Build and maintain characterisation systems, including hardware interfacing, instrument control, and automated test routines in Python.
- Develop and own Standard Operating Procedures for characterisation methods, ensuring repeatability, traceability, and compliance with medical device quality requirements.
- Design and conduct Verification and Validation testing in line with CoMind's design controls, generating the evidence required to support regulatory submissions.
- Process and analyse characterisation datasets, extracting meaningful performance insights and identifying failure modes or design risks.
- Produce clear, well-structured test reports and technical documentation for both internal stakeholders and regulatory purposes.
- Collaborate with optical, electronics, software, and clinical teams to ensure characterisation outputs directly inform product design decisions.
- Liaise with laser and photodetector suppliers to exchange analysis of test data.
AI is fundamental to our culture — it's not just a tool, but a core part of how we work, collaborate, and innovate. We expect all team members to embrace AI in their daily work and continuously find new ways to use it effectively.
