A Senior Librarian is required to join the Western Isles Library Service for a fixed term position. The postholder will be responsible for the management, development and delivery of collection services and will support the Libraries Manager in the authority-wide development and promotion of library and information services, ensuring that local and national needs are met and that the service delivers on the aims of Scotland's Public Library Strategy.
The successful candidate will lead, organise and motivate the Western Isles Library team, promoting library collections through a range of activities, events and programmes for all ages and communities. They will also contribute to service improvement, collection development, staff training and development, partnership working and the effective management of library resources across the Western Isles.
Applicants should hold a Degree in Library and Information Science, or a degree in another subject together with a postgraduate qualification in Library and Information Science. A relevant professional qualification, such as Chartered Membership of CILIP, and experience of working in a professional library and information environment are essential. Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills are required, together with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively as part of a team.
Experience of budget management, stock management and reader development programmes would be advantageous. Knowledge of Gaelic, or a willingness to learn, is also desirable.
The post involves occasional irregular working, including evenings and Saturdays, as required. The post is fixed term for the duration of the current post holder’s absence.

Salary for the above post is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance. Appointment to the post will be on the first point of the grade.
