Required for all areas of the Western Isles. Gaelic speakers are encouraged to apply. Comhairle nan Eilean Siar directly manages nurseries throughout the islands and is recruiting Relief Nursery Key Workers, Gaelic and English, to cover staff absences. Successful candidates will have their names added to a relief bank and will be called to work as and when required.
You will assist the Nursery staff with planning a curriculum which supports and guides children’s all round learning and development, and planning and organising the play session taking into account the needs of every child. You must have proven childcare experience of working with young children and their families in an early years setting together with knowledge of child development and how children learn. In addition, you must be willing to work towards a qualification that meets the requirements of the SSSC for practitioners.
This post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme as a legal requirement of a regulated role with Children.
Interviews will be conducted in person, providing candidates with the chance to personally meet the team and experience our work environment.
Closing Date: Monday 7 September 2026. Salary for the above post is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance. Appointment to the post will be on the first point of the grade. Please note that sponsorship is not available, or being offered, in connection to this post.
