Comech Metrology Ltd is seeking a reliable, organised, and proactive Production Controller / Driver to join our Distribution team on a twilight shift.

This is a varied role that combines logistics coordination, goods handling, administration, and driving responsibilities to support the efficient movement of products throughout our business and to our customers.

About the Role

As a Production Controller / Driver, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth receipt, tracking, distribution, and dispatch of goods across the business.

You will also provide driving cover when required, supporting delivery operations and hub replenishment activities.

Working within our quality-driven environment, you'll play a key role in maintaining accurate records, coordinating shipments, and ensuring customers receive an outstanding service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and check incoming goods against delivery documentation.
  • Identify and report missing, additional, damaged, or incorrect items.
  • Book goods into company systems accurately and promptly.
  • Load and unload vehicles safely in accordance with Health & Safety procedures.
  • Distribute goods to the correct departments and locations.
  • Prepare products for dispatch, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Organise returns and subcontract shipments.
  • Coordinate courier collections and deliveries.
  • Maintain accurate tracking records using internal software systems.
  • Assist with driver scheduling and logistics planning.
  • Monitor departmental stock levels, including packaging materials and consumables.
  • Support the training and induction of new team members.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
  • Ensure all activities comply with company quality procedures and regulatory standards.
  • Driving Responsibilities
  • Provide driving cover across any company route as required due to holiday or sickness absence.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections and roadworthiness checks before use.
  • Report vehicle defects using Fleet Check and notify management immediately.
  • Complete daily fatigue assessments and confirm fitness to drive.
  • Drive company vehicles safely, professionally, and in accordance with: FORS requirements, Driver hours regulations, Working Time Regulations, Company policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and replenish Ad Blue levels where required.
  • Participate in company drugs and alcohol testing programmes.

What We're Looking For

  • Full UK driving licence with a maximum of 3 penalty points.
  • No previous driving bans.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Strong administrative and IT skills.
  • Ability to follow procedures and maintain quality standards.
  • Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling duties.
  • Able to prioritise tasks and manage a busy workload.
  • Positive, flexible, and team-oriented approach.
  • Previous experience in Goods In/Goods Out, Warehousing, Distribution, Logistics, or Transport Administration.
  • Experience using stock control or logistics software systems.
