As a BMS Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for commissioning, testing, and validating energy management systems to ensure optimal operation and adherence to project specifications. This role involves working on a variety of projects, including commercial buildings, hospitals, schools, and other complex environments where energy management is critical. You will be working closely with the project delivery team, clients, and external contractors to ensure that all systems are correctly configured and performing to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- System Commissioning: Commission BMS systems, ensuring proper installation, calibration, and functionality according to design specifications and operational requirements.
- Programming and Configuration: Develop and adjust control algorithms and parameters within the BMS to meet energy optimisation goals, including programming controllers, sensors, and actuators.
- System Testing: Carry out detailed testing, including factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and functional performance tests to verify the system\’s compliance with project requirements.
- Energy Optimisation: Analyse system performance and identify opportunities for energy savings, improving system efficiency through configuration adjustments or recommendations for system enhancements.
- System Integration: Integrate the BMS with other building systems such as HVAC, lighting, and access control, ensuring smooth operation and communication between systems.
- Troubleshooting and Diagnostics: Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and communication issues related to BMS systems, providing timely solutions to ensure project timelines are met.
- Documentation: Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation, including commissioning reports, system configurations, graphics, and operation and maintenance manuals.
- Client Interaction and Training: Liaise with clients to explain system functionality, provide technical support, and deliver system training where necessary.
- Compliance and Standards: Ensure that all commissioning activities comply with relevant industry standards and health and safety regulations.
- Post-Commissioning Support: Provide ongoing support to clients post-handover, including system performance reviews and maintenance recommendations
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in BMS commissioning and energy management.
- Proficiency with major BMS platforms (e.g., Trend, Tridium, Siemens, Schneider, Honeywell, etc.).
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems and control strategies, with a focus on energy management and optimisation.
- Experience with energy monitoring, data analysis, and reporting for optimising building performance.
- Knowledge of communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and LonWorks.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and a focus on energy efficiency.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- CSCS card required, other relevant industry certifications (e.g. PASMA, IPAF) desirable.
- Willingness to travel to various client sites as required.
- A full, valid UK driving licence and access to a reliable personal vehicle for travel between project sites is required.
