Head of Design – Modular Buildings (Midlands)
Due to continued growth, we are looking for a Head of Design – Modular Buildings to act as Principal Designer under the Building Safety Act for modular construction projects (excluding higher‑risk buildings).
The role is based in the Midlands and offers a package of £60,000‑£75,000 plus bonus, car or car allowance, pension, health and life insurance.
Role Overview
This position coordinates design activities to manage and reduce building safety risks, ensuring statutory compliance across off‑site manufacture and on‑site installation.
You will work closely with the Design and Estimating team, adapting existing buildings and developing them through client discussion and commercial approvals on projects ranging from £150,000 to £15,000,000.
Responsibilities
- Act as Principal Designer for modular construction projects under the Building Safety Act.
- Coordinate design activities to manage safety risks and ensure statutory compliance.
- Collaborate with Design and Estimating teams on initial designs and pricing.
- Adapt existing buildings and develop new projects through client discussion and commercial approvals.
- Deliver projects smoothly, on time and to specification, maintaining overall quality.
Qualifications
- Proven technical expertise in Modular Buildings, Timber Frame, Steel Framed, Bathroom Pods or SIPs Panels.
- Relevant experience from a modular buildings company, timber frame business, steel framed company, bathroom pods organization, or Main Contracting/Traditional Build background.
- Strong technical knowledge of building regulation‑compliant solutions.
- Demonstrated track record of delivering projects of £150,000 to £15,000,000.
- Professional attributes: driven, enthusiastic, positive, self‑sufficient, hard‑working, flexible, gravitas and a desire to succeed.
