About the job

Kickstart your career in IT as an apprentice based in our Glasgow office. You’ll gain hands-on experience working across various areas of IT, from IT support to cyber security to build a well-rounded understanding of Columbus UK, while helping to ensure our internal systems and our customer’s services work smoothly.

Your day as an apprentice

As a Columbus UK apprentice, every day is different as you rotate through various IT departments from support to cybersecurity, working with mentors to develop your technical knowledge to help keep Columbus UK’s systems and services running smoothly for colleagues and customers across Scotland.

What you will learn and do:

  • First-Line Support: Provide initial technical support via phone, email, and chat for a variety of IT-related issues.
  • Incident Logging: Accurately log support tickets, ensuring all customer issues are recorded in the ticketing system.
  • Troubleshooting: Assist in diagnosing and resolving basic IT issues, including hardware, software, network, and application problems.
  • Escalation: Escalate more complex issues to the appropriate internal teams or senior support staff for further resolution.
  • User Account Management: Assist with user account setup, password resets, and access permissions.
  • Documentation: Maintain up-to-date records of known issues and solutions for future reference.
  • Customer Service: Deliver excellent customer service with a positive, professional attitude.
  • Learning & Development: Continuously improve technical knowledge through training and hands-on experience. Collaborate with teams to deliver excellent service and contribute to key projects. Balance practical work experience with study towards a SCQF Level 6 in IT Digital Helpdesk Support.

End qualification: SCQF Level 6 in Digital Helpdesk Support

Duration: 1 year

Start date: April 2026 or sooner
