To maintain, service, diagnose, and repair Heavy Goods Vehicles to ensure they are safe, roadworthy, and compliant with DVSA and company standards, minimising vehicle downtime and supporting operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and preventative maintenance on HGVs and trailers
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults
- Conduct MOT preparation, inspections, and defect rectification
- Complete brake testing, safety checks, and roadside breakdown repairs as required
- Ensure all work complies with DVSA, manufacturer, and company standards
- Accurately complete job cards, service records, and maintenance documentation
- Use diagnostic equipment and workshop tools safely and effectively
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment
- Communicate clearly with workshop controllers, fleet managers, and drivers
- Participate in on-call or shift work where required
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent)
- Proven experience working as an HGV mechanic/technician
- Full UK driving licence (HGV licence desirable)
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Good understanding of health & safety and DVSA regulations
Desirable:
- HGV Class 1 (C+E) or Class 2 (C) licence
- IRTEC accreditation (desirable)
- Experience with diagnostic software and modern vehicle systems
- Experience working with mixed fleets (Artics, Trailers, Vans)
