To maintain, service, diagnose, and repair Heavy Goods Vehicles to ensure they are safe, roadworthy, and compliant with DVSA and company standards, minimising vehicle downtime and supporting operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and preventative maintenance on HGVs and trailers
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults
  • Conduct MOT preparation, inspections, and defect rectification
  • Complete brake testing, safety checks, and roadside breakdown repairs as required
  • Ensure all work complies with DVSA, manufacturer, and company standards
  • Accurately complete job cards, service records, and maintenance documentation
  • Use diagnostic equipment and workshop tools safely and effectively
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment
  • Communicate clearly with workshop controllers, fleet managers, and drivers
  • Participate in on-call or shift work where required

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience working as an HGV mechanic/technician
  • Full UK driving licence (HGV licence desirable)
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Good understanding of health & safety and DVSA regulations

Desirable:

  • HGV Class 1 (C+E) or Class 2 (C) licence
  • IRTEC accreditation (desirable)
  • Experience with diagnostic software and modern vehicle systems
  • Experience working with mixed fleets (Artics, Trailers, Vans)
