We are seeking an experienced z/OS Systems Programmer to join a high-performing infrastructure and engineering team supporting critical enterprise mainframe environments. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong systems programmer with deep expertise across z/OS technologies, IBM and CA products, and enterprise production support environments. The successful candidate will play a key role in the upgrade, maintenance, support, and continuous improvement of core mainframe systems and tooling, ensuring platform stability, performance, and resilience across complex environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Upgrade, maintain, and support the z/OS operating system
- Install, configure, maintain, and support a range of IBM and CA (Computer Associates) ISV products
- Provide high-level production support across critical enterprise systems
- Support software deployment, configuration, implementation, testing, and planning activities
- Perform technical analysis, troubleshooting, and problem determination across the mainframe estate
- Develop and implement functional and technical solutions aligned to business and infrastructure requirements
- Participate in software implementation activities, project delivery, and operational support
- Provide out-of-hours support for software changes, upgrades, and project activities as part of an on-call rota
- Work collaboratively with infrastructure, engineering, operations, and project teams to ensure platform reliability and service continuity
- Ensure compliance with operational, security, and risk management standards
Requirements
- Extensive hands-on experience in mainframe systems programming
- Strong experience supporting and maintaining z/OS environments
- Proven expertise with: z/OS, SMP/E, TSO/ISPF, USS, SDSF, JCL
- Strong knowledge of IBM and CA products
- Ability to work independently and manage complex technical issues
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to varied stakeholders
- Experience working within enterprise production and support environments
- Strong understanding of operational governance, risk, and regulatory compliance
- REXX and CLIST scripting
- Automation tooling experience
- GDPS exposure
- Top Secret security administration
- Performance and capacity monitoring experience using: RMF, SMF, SAS
