We are seeking an experienced Engineering Excellence Lead to help shape and mature our Cyber Engineering organisation. This role is focused on building a strong engineering culture grounded in automation, standardisation, and continuous improvement across multiple teams. You will play a key role in defining how engineering is done across Cyber — driving consistency in tooling, pipelines, patterns, and practices while enabling teams to deliver faster, safer, and more efficiently. This is a highly collaborative role, working across engineering, product, and architecture teams to establish scalable, reusable, and secure engineering standards that improve overall delivery performance and developer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering Excellence & Standards
    • Help establish and evolve the Engineering Excellence programme across Cyber
    • Build and nurture a community of practice to drive consistency, standardisation, and continuous improvement
    • Define, document, and promote engineering best practices across teams
    • Identify and implement engineering standards, patterns, and ways of working that improve efficiency and quality
    • Facilitate the design, creation, and adoption of standard build and deployment pipelines across Cyber
    • Partner with engineering teams to improve CI/CD maturity and automation adoption
    • Ensure engineering processes and tooling are efficient, scalable, and aligned to organisational needs
    • Drive automation-first principles across infrastructure and application delivery
    • Promote cross-functional reuse of engineering assets across teams and products
    • Champion a “build once, use many times” approach to platforms, pipelines, and infrastructure
    • Improve time-to-market by increasing reuse and reducing duplication across teams
    • Engage across Cyber and wider business functions to ensure alignment of engineering approaches
  • Product & Requirements Engineering
    • Work with engineering and product teams to define requirements for secure, scalable, and operationally efficient services
    • Ensure non-functional requirements (security, reliability, scalability, compliance) are embedded into product design
    • Support standardised product selection approaches to ensure engineering suitability and operational readiness
  • Agile Coaching & Engineering Culture
    • Coach and support Agile teams to adopt engineering best practices and standard patterns
    • Promote a strong focus on customer-centric engineering (“concept to product to customer”)
    • Encourage inner-sourcing, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement across teams
  • Leadership & Technical Influence
    • Partner with Engineering Leads and Capability Owners to ensure alignment and delivery of engineering outcomes
    • Influence technical direction across multiple teams and domains
    • Provide guidance on engineering quality, design authority, and delivery standards

What You Will Bring

  • Strong DevOps and platform engineering experience, both hands-on and at design/architecture level
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline
  • Extensive experience as a Senior Engineer, Technical Architect, or similar senior technical role
  • Proven track record of leading engineering improvements in large, complex organisations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, with the ability to assess technical, commercial, and regulatory constraints
  • Experience operating in high-change, high-scale, matrixed environments
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills across distributed/global teams
  • Proven ability to influence technical direction and drive delivery outcomes
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering, requirements management, and scalable solution design
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills at senior levels
  • Fluent written and spoken English, with ability to collaborate across diverse global teams

Nice to Have

  • Experience in financial services or other highly regulated industries
  • Exposure to Cyber Security engineering practices, tooling, and standards
  • Experience working in environments with strong compliance and governance requirements
