Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Lead Java Engineer to join a major banking client. This is a hands-on technical leadership position, responsible for designing and delivering scalable Java-based applications while supporting and guiding the wider engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of enterprise Java applications.
- Build scalable microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
- Provide technical direction and support engineering best practices.
- Review code and ensure high standards across security, testing and performance.
- Design and integrate RESTful APIs and event-driven services.
- Work closely with architects, product owners and engineering teams.
- Support cloud-native deployment and CI/CD processes.
- Mentor developers and help resolve complex technical issues.
- Deliver solutions in line with banking security and regulatory requirements.
Key Skills and Experience
- Strong commercial experience with Java and Spring Boot.
- Previous experience as a Lead Engineer or Senior Java Engineer.
- Strong knowledge of microservices and distributed systems.
- Experience with REST APIs and API-led integration.
- Experience with Kafka or similar messaging technologies.
- Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.
- Strong understanding of automated testing and code-quality practices.
- Excellent stakeholder communication and technical leadership skills.
- Banking or financial services experience is highly desirable.
Additional Information
- Inside IR35 contract.
- Hybrid working with 2 days per week onsite.
