Why we need this role
This role is part of the Network Transformation Engineering Team within the COO NTP- Network Transformation planning (infra) function. The position contributes to delivering city strategies, identifying network optimisation opportunities, generating pipelines, assessing and delivering project solutions, designing network migration methods and cost models, and analysing network data for all domains across the Colt network.
The role will engage deeply in developing and executing strategies for core network build and transformation projects, including city strategies, network and node programmes, and network lifecycle initiatives. It requires driving core network transformation, technical planning, detailed preparation, job pack creation, coordination of technology, and design of service migrations between network sites. The role will manage relationships with key support teams such as product, network architecture, engineering, sales, accounts and operations to plan workload and resources for transformation projects.
Key responsibilities include providing data discovery, analysis, visualization, planning and technical expertise on city strategy, network optimisation and forced exits, supporting development of proposals and business cases, and supporting other migration or network asset optimisation tasks.
What You Will Do
- Data discovery, analysis and visualization related to network planning for multi‑technology and multi‑era telecommunications platforms, in alignment with Colt Engineering guidelines.
- Lead city strategy discussions, create agreements and follow through on identified opportunities by preparing business cases, setting financial justification and obtaining stakeholder approval.
- Perform network analytics, technical design and implementation for transformation programmes such as node programme, network life cycle, end‑of‑life, and migrations.
- Develop network discovery and service analytics methods and databases aligned with network life cycle management for long‑term strategy.
- Deliver business case supporting documentation (e.g., BOM, MOP).
- Provide regular delivery progress reporting per project and programme requirements.
- Drive development of migration approaches aligned to technologies and specific network sites.
- Produce planned and updated project and summary reports, including cost breakdowns and summaries.
- Manage workflows for technical migration planning and execution, covering network infrastructure and customer service migrations.
- Design and deliver efficiency for the Network Transformation programme.
- Ensure accuracy of network planning for design and cost.
- Align network transformation planning with operational requirements of Colt’s internal and external network needs.
- Optimise business cases with proven cost elements.
- Innovate technically and commercially for network transformation programs.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in a telco service provider environment, planning, configuring and documenting network assets and inventory.
- Awareness/exposure to vendor equipment: WDM (Ciena/Nokia/Infinera/ADVA), Ethernet, IP (Cisco/Ciena/Nokia/Juniper).
- Experience delivering network service migrations within a live network environment.
- Domain expertise in optical and IP networks; knowledge of key technologies and architectures deployed in the Colt network (LDN, NSN MSP, M‑MSP, IP, etc.).
- Experience planning, deploying and migrating large‑scale network projects such as optical WDM, GPON/FTTH, IP‑MPLS and fibre networks.
- Proficiency in MS‑Excel, MS‑PowerPoint and MS‑Visio.
- Advantage if skilled in VBA, Power BI, Python, Qlik, etc.
- Experience writing business cases and preparing cost calculations for large transformation projects.
- Knowledge of node/site planning for telco infrastructure.
- Understanding of Tx and packet technologies and architectures deployed in the Colt network.
- Ability to collect network data from various database tools (OHS, ARM, Seibel, CNMT, CEOS, Helix, other OSS/BSS) and streamline services information (customer terminating services, internal services, passthrough traffic, drop‑extended services).
- Hands‑on experience with physical device/rack installation and commissioning.
- Knowledge of non‑IT components used to build a telecom site (rack, ODF, CTP panel, fibre panel, optical patch cords, network cabling, power cabling, cable trays, power & cooling requirements, rack layout design, etc.).
- Knowledge of site layout, power requirements, fibre laying & planning and other infrastructure requirements for telecom sites (MSC/NSE, data centres, POP, ILA/LDN).
- Sound knowledge of Colt’s product portfolios and end‑to‑end service delivery.
- Innovative, motivated, and able to think “out of the box.”
