We are currently seeking a BIM SME with data centre or critical engineering experience to work within our Global Engineering Team. In this global role, you will drive standards, consistency, and continuous improvement of BIM and Document Control procedures. You will report to the Head of BIM, part of the Real Estate Development Team in Colt DCS. You will support in driving the improvement of COLT's BIM standards, design automation, process improvement, performance reporting & quality assurance across our growing portfolio of Data Centres. As the Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will provide guidance globally to internal & external stakeholders ensuring adherence to the Colt EIRs & DCS Global Reference Design (GRD). You will own the BIM OFCI equipment management ensuring BIM Families are received from vendors & support the procurement, OFCI delivery & technical teams. You will ensure that EIRs & BIM processes are kept up to date considering new legislation, technologies, efficiency & best available techniques which improve speed to market & improve speed of design, quality of BIM delivery and quality of design & install.

The BIM Implementation SME will primarily be responsible for supporting the Head of BIM in the development of Global Initiatives that are important to the success of the business & developing & updating Global BIM standards. They will also be responsible for ensuring a base level of BIM delivery across all regions via project BIM auditing and managing and supporting ACC (or other) adoption at project level. As the SME for BIM they will ultimately be responsible for providing technical support to the project BIM & Document control team. They will also own the OFCI BIM process and ensure its successful implementation at project level. Key responsibilities are as below:

  • Project auditing - ensuring BIM managers & CDR are correctly implementing the GRD & EIR standards
  • Project auditing – ensure ACC use is in compliance with the intended use
  • Doc Control - ACC (or other) system implementation monitoring & support at project level
  • Support with R&D
  • Support with updating COLT Global Standard Documentation & producing new standards
  • Support in improving COLT's standard BIM processes & procedures
  • Support the Global Engineering Team in Developing a Generative Design Solution
  • Support Interior Architects with improving Test Fit process
  • Provide technical support to wider team – including scanning process.
  • Provide technical support to project level Document Controllers & BIM Managers
  • Work with Data Analyst to produce company wide dashboard KPI / Live performance reports including trend reporting, BIM, Cost, Cx, Documentation.
  • Manage OFCI BIM process and support OFCI delivery team.
  • Own OFCI BIM documents
  • Attend BIM & Data Centre conferences to maintain industry knowledge
  • Report to Head Of BIM on all BIM matters project and business wide
  • Support Head Of BIM with rollout of systems / platforms / processes
  • Support Head of BIM with improving ways of working
  • Support Head of BIM with keeping Global standards documentation up to date
  • Keep abreast of latest COLT BIM standards

The Global Engineering Team, reporting to the Senior Global Director of Development, is formed of subject matter experts (Mechanical, Electrical, Automation Systems, BIM etc), with the main responsibility of owning and maintaining the GRD, the technical selection & governance of OFCI equipment, ensuring at each stage that the projects are compliant with our standardised delivery plan. The broader Development Team is made up of Development Managers who are responsible for the acquisition of land, procurement & coordination of power, fibre, local authority permitting and other pre-construction activities. Regional Engineering Teams consisting of Design Managers and Specialists (BMS, Security, BIM etc) have Design Authority at a project level and interface or escalate technical challenges to the Global Engineering Team for technical direction and guidance.

Strong information management skills, a proven track record in large projects and a strong background in all aspects of information management. Expert in providing implementation and governance to information management across several projects. Experience in reviewing Data Centre Design & Models – Mechanical or Electrical background preferred but not essential. Good understanding of ACC use and implementation. Experienced user of Revit, Navisworks and RECAP. Experience in field verification process (Scan-to-BIM). Experience working with Clients, Contractors and Consultants. Proven experience of writing policy statements and guidance documents. Experience with project management approaches, tools and phases of the project lifecycle. Knowledge of Quality Management and ISO 19650 processes. Detail-oriented, possessing strong organizational skills & self-sufficient. Experience in managing people preferred. Excellent IT skills required in tools such as the Microsoft suite and knowledge of power BI / Google Data studio or equivalent is required. Ability to travel as and when required. Excellent communication skills verbally and written. Ability to communicate in English required. Additional languages such as French, German, Japanese preferred but not essential.

Technical Knowledge: ISO BIM Standards, BIM Modelling process from inception to completion, BIM Management process from inception to completion, Revit family creation & management, Use of BIM in Feasibility stage, Use of BIM in Operational phase, Data Analytics & Reporting.

Preferred Qualifications: Degree qualified in a construction and or engineering related discipline. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in construction or consultancy environments. Minimum of 5 years of experience in Mission Critical facility, healthcare, laboratories, industrial or aerospace industry, design, construction, operations, and/or maintenance. Fluent in English; preferred other languages French, German or Japanese is highly desirable. Extensive knowledge of information management in Design and Engineering. Working knowledge of 3D authoring tools, validation & reporting tools. Knowledge of Generative Design AI tools and technologies is highly desirable.
