Ever spent 20 minutes untangling a set of Christmas lights and thought, \"I could do this professionally, but with heavier gear and better banter\"? Welcome home.
At Colour Sound Experiment, we’ve spent 35 years supplying lighting and video to the live events industry—which means we have roughly four billion miles of cable that need wrangling. We’re hunting for a full-time Cable Prep Technician at our London HQ to join the crew ASAP. This is a proper hands-on, physical role, so if you're looking for a desk job where you can stare at spreadsheets, keep walking. But if you’re ready to lift heavy things, tame copper pythons, and keep the show on the road, let's talk.
About the Role
As our full time, hands on cable wrangler, your days will consist of the following:
Cable Management & Maintenance
- Accurately count, prepare, and organise various cable types to ensure proper stock levels and project readiness.
- Test and inspect cables for wear, damage, or malfunction.
- Maintain precise cable inventory to prevent shortages and ensure all gear meets safe operating standards.
Order Preparation & Inventory Tracking
- Efficiently pick & prep cables according to pick lists and equipment manifests.
- Utilize the in-house job and asset management system to check equipment in/out, update item statuses, and track inventory movement.
Logistics & Load-In Support
- Assist with the safe loading and unloading of transport trucks and vans, ensuring equipment is packed securely to prevent damage during transit.
- Organize incoming gear in the warehouse to ensure rapid processing and turnaround.
Flight Case Care & Prep
- Deep clean, inspect, and repair flight cases, removing old labels/tape and ensuring locks, handles, and foam inserts are in top condition.
- Pack and organize gear neatly within designated flight cases to maximize protection and ease of setup on site.
General Operations & Team Support
- Provide hands-on assistance across various warehouse/production departments as directed by management.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by following proper health and safety protocols.
We’re looking for someone to commit to our cables for 40 hours a week across either 4 or 5 days with plenty of overtime available on a pro rata basis. We operate 7 days a week and offer flexibility on days worked.
What’s In It For You:
Aside from going home every night with an ever growing list of behind the scenes stories, we do also offer some of the more traditional benefits (and a few extra that we love, so we hope you do too!)
- Salary - £14.80 per hour, dependent on experience - this is in line with the London Living Wage
- On site parking
- Private healthcare - including discounted gym membership (not that’ll you need it - one week in our cable department will have you challenging Eddie Hall!)
- Subsidised canteen
- Cycle to work scheme
- EV scheme
About You:
- Eagle Eyes: You notice the one bad connector in a sea of five hundred. High standards, strict safety protocols, and zero shortcuts are just how you’re built.
- Straight to the Point: You are able to communicate effectively, and thrive in a team where direct communication keeps everyone safe and on the same page.
- Clockwork Reliability: You show up on time, every time. We can set our watches by you.
- It’s A Marathon, Not A (but sometimes) Sprint: Live events aren't 9-to-5. You’ve got the stamina to power through peak periods.
- Show-Ready (or Ready to Learn): Live crew or stagehand experience is a massive plus, but if you've got the right attitude and physical drive, we can teach you the ropes.
- Gear Whisperer: You take pride in testing, prepping, and staging kit so it arrives on site flawless and ready to rock.
- Tetris Master: You can pack a flight case or a 45-foot truck with mathematical precision, making the most of every square inch.
- Cool Hand Luke: When the schedule shifts or a last-minute rig change drops, you don't panic; you adapt, pivot, and crack on.
- Plate Spinning Expert: You can juggle five tasks at once in a fast-paced warehouse without dropping the safety ball.
