Reporting to: Director
Locations: Hackney Wick and Peckham
Pattern: 3 days/week, malleable across the week. The shape is likely a half-day on Monday, full Tuesday and Wednesday, and a Thursday that can be half or full depending on the week. Open to flexibility on how this lands. Mostly in person across the sites with some remote possible, and occasional evenings when there's a venue event you'd want to be in the room for.
Rate: £20/hour base, with performance bonuses linked to micro-merchandise targets across some of the businesses, plus team benefits (guest ticket allocation, food and drink at the venues, and studio access).
Start: ASAP. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
Right to work: You must have the right to work in the UK.
About us: We run four connected hospitality and cultural businesses in London: Colour Factory, our music venue and event space in Hackney Wick; Jumbi, our bar and cultural hub in Peckham; Colour Works, our music studios offering in Hackney Wick with a community of producers, artists and creative tenants; and Run The Box, also in Hackney Wick, where we let kitchen spaces to food and drink residents. We operate across several connected legal entities.
We're actively building out AI processes across the business and this role will sit alongside that work. Comfort with AI tools in your day to day is important. Building them is not your job. Using them well is.
Why we're hiring: Our operations are changing. We're restructuring the team to give specialists clean scope and this is a transitionary role, built around people, community and the director's effectiveness in the current moment, with the expectation that the shape will evolve as we automate more of the routine work. We're looking for someone who's open to that, who wants to focus on the human work, and who will help us pull the mundane stuff into automation along the way.
You'll work closely with our finance lead general managers and the director. Finance and brand partnerships sit with dedicated people, though you may pick up some light finance-adjacent admin where it crosses into people and contracts.
The role: This is a people-first EA and community role. You'll be the day-to-day coordination point for our internal team across the sites, the community manager for Colour Works studios membership, the relationship lead for Run The Box kitchen tenants, and the connective tissue between the director and the wider operation.
What you'll own:
- Director support: Calendar, inbox triage, gatekeeping, meeting prep, weekly cadence and follow-ups across the sites and multiple entities.
- HR coordination across entities: Contracts, onboarding, offboarding, right-to-work checks, records and light policy work. Coordinating with our external accountants and payroll team where employment paperwork crosses into compensation.
- Cross-site people management: Junior staff oversight, freelancers, contractors. Resignations, holiday coordination, OOO and team-wide comms with calm and care.
- Colour Works community management: Relationship lead for the music studios membership. Tenant onboarding and offboarding, day-to-day comms, member queries, community events, keeping the culture of the space healthy. Studio occupancy is one of the things the performance bonus is linked to.
- Run The Box kitchen tenants and viewings: Hosting viewings with prospective kitchen residents, walking offers through to signature, onboarding new tenants, and holding the ongoing day-to-day relationship with the kitchens we let. Kitchen occupancy is also tied into the performance bonus.
- Training and team development: Coordinating training across FOH, bar and back of house. Following through on the team's roles and responsibilities work.
- Cross-business coordination: Connecting Colour Factory, Jumbi, Colour Works and Run The Box so decisions, schedules and people flow cleanly between them.
- Systems and admin: Google Workspace, Notion, Deputy, ChatGPT and Claude.
Ideal candidate: You've been an EA, ops coordinator, founder's associate, community manager or HR-ops generalist in hospitality, music, events, cultural or creative SME settings. You've managed people, not just tasks. You're steady across the range, whether that's a packed calendar, navigating a tricky moment between two team members, or a studio member who needs to talk something through at the end of a long day.
You move easily between cultural and corporate registers. You can sit with an artist, a bar manager, a studio tenant, a kitchen resident, an accountant and a brand contact in the same day and shift tone for each. You're a natural community builder. People remember you and they come to you.
You're calm under pressure, self-directed, and pick up new systems quickly. You take ownership without needing to be asked twice, and flag things early rather than letting them drift. You're open to your role changing shape over time as we automate more of the routine.
One important note: The scope is broad and the time is limited. Being open to Claude and other AI workflow tools day to day is what makes all of the above doable in the hours we have. A massive advantage if you're already experienced with these tools and using them day to day. If you're not there yet but genuinely open to learning, that works too. Either way, tell us where you're at in your application.
