Colonna's Shipyard is seeking a Weld Program Administrator to join our team. The Weld Program Administrator provides essential support to the Company's weld program, including day-to-day administration of the program, support of surveillances, audits, and biometric screenings. This position requires commitment to safety, quality, and continued improvements. This onsite (Norfolk, VA) position requires flexibility in schedule and hours beyond a standard work week to accommodate business needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize and maintain the "NavWeld" database to generate and track Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ's), Welder Maintenance, Welder Workmanship Training, and Vision Records in accordance with the appropriate code requirements (NAVSEA, ABS, AWS, ASME).
  • Track inventory of materials and supplies at the Welding School. Obtain quotes and submit requisition orders after confirming needs with the Welding Instructor and Weld Program Manager.
  • Schedule and organize all welder and fitter testing and training utilizing the welder testing calendar.
  • Create, organize, and review with the Weld Instructor/Quality Management, all required paperwork associated with testing or training of welders and fitters for each scheduled event.
  • Conduct in-process welder surveillance audits across all business units, as assigned.
  • Carry out Welding Procedure Qualification Tests and welder qualifications IAW the Weld Program Managers' instructions.
  • Support development and updating of welding curriculum and training materials based on industry standards and company needs and assist in research/development of procedure qualification.
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets and reports for tracking welder testing, training, and purchasing records.
  • Assist the Welding Instructor/Quality Management with preparing for and conducting Welder Performance Qualification Testing and training, as assigned.
  • Assist the management with annual audits, i.e. MARMC, SWRMC, AISC, etc.
  • Assist business units with questions and research needs regarding various welding codes.
  • Work with vendors, suppliers, and customers in the welding industry to remain current with welding technologies and equipment.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Additionally, the position will support other Quality Department functions such as:

  • Maintain regular and effective interface with trades personnel & supervision, subcontractors, customers, etc. enterprise wide to schedule and coordinate checkpoints for all Company tests and inspections performed within the yard, or offsite and to satisfy training needs.
  • Generate and distribute various status reports as required by contract or Company needs.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to strategic training initiatives including collaborating with the quality department and operations management to align training with the companies quality standards and current/ future work needs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a HS Diploma (or equivalent) plus a minimum of 5 years of experience supporting quality and/or welding programs.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to various customer or government databases and systems.
  • Must be able to read and understand various customer codes and requirements including but not limited to NAVSEA, ABS, AWS, and ASME Section IX.
  • Must be able to read and understand various WPS's, PQR's, WPQ's across many industry codes.
  • Must have knowledge of various welding processes including but not limited to SMAW, FCAW, SAW, GMAW, GMAW-P, and GTAW.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of applications, including OUTLOOK, EXCEL, WORD, PPT.
  • Must be able to collaborate with others and possess well-developed communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Must have regular and reliable attendance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree (such as Welding Engineering or related field) and/or Registered Apprenticeship preferred.
  • NDT Level III, CWI, and/or CWE qualifications strongly desired.
  • Previous managerial/leadership roles, to include oversight of personnel, preferred.

Travel Requirements:

  • Occasional Travel; 15% or less.

Security Requirements:

  • Must be able to access Government facilities and be DBIDS eligible. Position requires US Citizenship.

Physical Requirements:

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Able to sit and work on a computer for long periods.
  • Moving about accomplishing tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be physically agile to perform tasks in naval ships. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and moving through manholes.
  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
  • Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment. While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl. Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation.
