Lead Mechanic Supervisor – Electrician
Purpose:
Colonna\’s Shipyard is seeking a Lead Mechanic Supervisor to support operations at our shipyard in Norfolk, VA.
Position Summary:
This position supports management with training and assigning semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel based on their abilities, experience, and knowledge to achieve production goals in ship repair and industrial fabrication.
The role is onsite in Norfolk, VA, with flexible hours beyond a standard workweek and occasional travel may be required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Execute routine and non-routine production duties supporting operational goals in compliance with company policies.
- Perform skilled tasks related to electrical maintenance, repair, installation, and new construction for ship repair and fabrication.
- Assist management in daily production activities, ensuring teams have necessary tools and resources for safe and efficient work.
- Support management in employee supervision, including timekeeping, training, performance management, and coaching.
- Break down production requirements into practical action plans focusing on safety, quality, cost, and schedule.
- Make recommendations for the Plan of the Day (POD) and utilize resources efficiently to meet project requirements.
- Evaluate job sites for safety and efficiency before work begins.
- Ensure understanding and compliance with technical job requirements, drawings, and procedures.
Additionally, the position will:
- Review project specifications and support material requisitions.
- Generate and submit production reports, including condition reports, surveillance reports, and quality checks.
- Support mobilization and demobilization of tools and resources, reporting damaged or lost equipment.
- Initiate QA and customer inspections as needed.
- Serve as backup supervisor when necessary.
- Provide input on project schedules, progress, and updates.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, Registered Apprentice, or high school diploma with at least 6 years of relevant trade experience, specifically as a Marine Electrician.
- Ability to interpret job specifications, drawings, and technical references.
- Experience in maintaining and repairing electrical and electro-mechanical systems on marine vessels.
- Advanced hands-on experience with motors, generators, and alternators components.
- Knowledge of engine rooms and ship electrical systems.
- Self-motivated with reliable attendance and minimal supervision.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
- Supervisory experience in Commercial and Government Ship Repair is preferred.
Travel Requirements:
- Minimal travel, 10% or less.
Security Requirements:
- Ability to access government facilities and obtain DBIDS clearance.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift at least 20 lbs and perform physical tasks such as climbing, working in extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and aboard ships.
- Work may involve exposure to noise, high heat, humidity, and industrial conditions.
- Operation of trucks, forklifts, and man-lifts required.
- Frequent standing, walking, and use of hands; occasional reaching, climbing, and other physical activities.
- Use of protective gear, including respirators, when necessary.
