Purpose of the job

As Senior Product Manager – APIs , you will own the end-to-end strategy, discovery, and delivery of our API platform capabilities. You’ll define the roadmap that empowers internal teams and external partners to build on our ecosystem, aligning deeply with business goals while ensuring technical excellence and an outstanding developer experience.

This is a high-impact, high-autonomy role for a strategic thinker with strong technical acumen, capable of driving alignment across engineering, product, and commercial teams. You’ll lead the charge in delivering scalable, secure, and easy-to-use APIs that unlock value for customers, clients, and partners, accelerating product innovation across the business.

Key Responsibilities

· Own and evolve the API product roadmap, prioritising features that enable scalable integrations, drive ecosystem growth, and align with both internal and external developer needs.

· Lead the end-to-end definition and delivery of API capabilities, from use case discovery to production rollout, ensuring robust design, security, and developer usability.

· Champion the API developer experience (DX) by collaborating with engineering, documentation, and DX teams to deliver intuitive, well-documented, and easy-to-consume APIs.

· Translate business requirements into clear, technically sound API specifications, working closely with engineering and solution architects to ensure feasibility, consistency, and alignment with enterprise standards.

· Partner with internal product teams, partners, and clients to identify integration use cases, accelerate time to market, and support adoption of our API products.

· Leverage analytics and performance metrics (e.g., API usage, latency, adoption rates) to drive product decisions and iterative improvements.

· Collaborate across product, engineering, and delivery teams to drive successful launches, monitor outcomes, and continuously optimise API performance and value.

· Stay ahead of industry and technology trends, benchmarking API strategies, platform ecosystems, and developer platforms to inform product direction and innovation.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

· Proven track record of launching and scaling API products or platforms, with measurable impact on adoption, integration, and ecosystem growth.

· Deep experience in product management within a technology-led, developer-centric environment, ideally involving B2B, SaaS, or platform business models.

· Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, API design principles, authentication methods (OAuth2, JWT), rate limiting, and developer enablement best practices — no need to code, but you should be fluent in the language of engineers.

· Comfortable working alongside engineering teams on API architecture, documentation, and lifecycle management, from versioning to deprecation strategies.

· Experienced in agile methodologies, iterative delivery, and experimentation, with the ability to balance rapid prototyping with platform stability.

· Analytical mindset and data fluency, including experience using API analytics (e.g., usage metrics, error rates, adoption funnels) to guide product decisions.

· Exceptional cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management skills, especially when aligning technical teams, commercial teams, and partners around a shared API strategy.

· Proven ability to build business cases and prioritisation frameworks that balance technical investment with strategic value.

· Strong mentoring and team leadership skills, with experience guiding product managers or squads in delivering complex, high-impact API solutions.

· Relentless curiosity about technology, platforms, and the evolving developer landscape — with an eye on trends like GraphQL, OpenAPI specs, and platform-as-a-product models.
