We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a 12‑month Industrial Placement at RTX's Collins Aerospace in Solihull, United Kingdom. The role will involve providing engineering support and working within a group of mechanical design engineers on projects for the design of mechanical and opto‑mechanical hardware to support visual display products under the guidance of technical leads.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Creation of assembly drawings, detailed manufacturing drawings, bills of materials and technical documentation in accordance with company quality procedures.
  • Update drawings and documentation from vendor and installation feedback.
  • Review specifications and other data to develop preliminary mechanical layouts leading to detail design.
  • Contribute to the development of new products as well as modify existing products or processes to increase efficiency or improve performance.
  • Liaison with internal customers, equipment suppliers and subcontractors associated with programs.
  • Contribute to internal design reviews and be prepared to present design.

Basic Qualifications

  • Studying for a degree (or equivalent qualification) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Able to multi‑task and prioritise own work.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and be a team player.
  • A can do, find a way, attitude.
  • Experience of delivering high quality work to a deadline.
  • Creativity, initiative, diplomacy, self‑motivation and self‑confidence.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; specifically the use of Microsoft Excel to filter, clean, identify, analyse and interpret trends or patterns in data.

Preferred Experience

  • 3‑d CAD experience using an industry recognised product. SolidWorks will be the software used for mechanical design and detailing.
  • Familiarity with relevant components of BS8888 which are required to produce CAD drawings for manufacture.
  • Understanding of material properties and manufacturing processes required for machined and fabricated parts.
