We are looking for a flexible and professional Warehousing/Yard Operative to join our Warehousing Team. This is a manual position and involves the use of semi-skilled equipment operation. The role involves responsibility for the maintenance of storage yards, warehouses and related facilities. As a key team member, you will be responsible for duties such as manually loading and unloading customer materials and equipment, operating mechanical loading equipment and keeping accurate records of the receipt and issue of all relevant items.
While a supervisor will provide verbal instructions covering major tasks, employees are expected to exercise judgment in applying storekeeping methods to their assignments. Occasionally, limited supervision may be exercised over temporary help participating in yard activities. Work is reviewed through frequent inspections of inventory and yard conditions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Loading/unloading of goods from trailer/commercial vehicles as required utilising the company’s varied loading equipment, including FLT’s and overhead gantry cranes.
- Assisting in maintaining organised stores in the yard/work area.
- General maintenance tasks and good housekeeping practices of yard and associated buildings.
- Acting as vehicle banksman/steersman/attendant in yard/depot/work area.
- Maintaining a safe working environment in yard/work area.
- Clear spillages of loose goods (e.g. sand).
- Slinging & lifting of heavy equipment.
- Awareness of potential theft & provision of extra care and assistance for any suspicious customers or situations.
- Any other duties as required to ensure effective management of the business.
Qualifications / Experience
- Flexible and willing to learn.
- Effective communicator at all levels.
- Excellent organisational ability.
- Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
- This is a physically demanding job at times and so a good level of personal fitness and strength to carry out duties is required.
- Full clean driving license.
- Fork lift truck license.
- Previous employment in a related sector.
- Narrow aisle forklift experience preferred.
- MEWP Licence.
- Overhead Gantry Crane Licence.
Location and conditions
This role is primarily based at our Sherburn in Elmet Depot. Normal working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00. Overtime and weekend work may be required to meet the demands of the business. We offer 28 days of annual leave, including bank holidays, and provide company contributions to the pension scheme, subject to conditions.
