We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Librarian to lead and develop our regional Library+ service at our Aberdeen City, Altens and Fraserburgh campuses. At each College site, the Library+ is at the heart of the campus, providing learners with access to a wide range of services and facilities to help support learning and teaching. The department’s primary aims and outcomes align directly with the College’s strategic objectives to enhance and transform the experience of all students wherever, whenever and however they engage in learning.
With responsibility for the management of a dedicated library support team operating across a large geographical area, you will ensure continued development and consistency of approach in delivery of services to all internal and external customers. As part of IT and Digital Services, you will help shape library services strategy and lead key projects. You should demonstrate the ability to motivate teams and encourage excellence and adaptability.
Candidates should possess comprehensive expertise in both print and electronic information resources, as well as demonstrate proficiency in instructing learners on how to locate and utilise these materials. Providing effective support for students requires an understanding of a wide range of resources and the application of innovative instructional strategies. The preferred candidate will be well-versed in emerging trends within library services and exhibit confidence in leading initiatives related to copyright, information literacy, and study skills.
Qualifications
- A recognised degree in Librarianship or Information Management accredited by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP); (SCQF Level 9)
- *Chartered Librarian status (MCLIP);
- Evidence of commitment to continuous professional development;
Experience
- Experience in working in a library/learning centre setting preferably within an FE environment
- Experience in developing and implementing information/admin systems and procedures
- Experience of managing records
- Experience of planning and evaluating services and achievement of successful outcomes.
- Experience of leading teams/individuals to achieve objectives and improve performance
- Experience of managing financial and physical resources.
- Experience of managing change and continuous improvement.
- Experience of managing quality in the delivery of services.
Knowledge
- Knowledge and understanding of academic library services, policies and procedures within a large regional academic institution;
- Expert knowledge of print & electronic information resources and pedagogical approaches to supporting learners search for, access and use such information;
- Knowledge and awareness of recent developments within the subject area and their impact upon further and higher education in Scotland.
