The School Nurse - On Call plays a key role in ensuring the safe, responsive and high-quality delivery of nursing care within the school environment. Working collaboratively as part of a team of three school nurses, the role supports students' physical wellbeing while contributing to a calm, caring and professional medical service.
The post holder communicates effectively and professionally with students, parents, staff and school leadership, ensuring that all medical information is handled with accuracy, discretion and confidentiality. Medical centre records and administrative tasks are maintained in line with school and regulatory requirements. Additional availability will be required during the summer period, in line with school activities, camps and student presence.
- Delivering safe, high-quality and efficient nursing care to students while on duty, in line with professional standards and school policies.
- Assessing health needs independently and providing appropriate care, treatment and follow-up, including responding effectively to medical emergencies.
- Maintaining accurate, clear and up-to-date medical records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with regulatory and school requirements.
- Upholding safeguarding, child protection principles and professional boundaries at all times.
- Acting as a key link between the Medical Centre and the wider school community, promoting effective communication with students, parents, boarding staff and academic teams.
- Communicating professionally and compassionately with parents regarding students' health, wellbeing and any required follow-up.
- Supporting health education, prevention and wellbeing initiatives within the school as required.
- Demonstrating evidence of ongoing professional development and a genuine interest in primary nursing and adolescent healthcare.
- Building positive and trusting relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and contributing to a supportive and efficient medical service.
- Adapting flexibly to changing priorities, on-call requirements and seasonal variations in workload.
- Showing cultural awareness and sensitivity within a diverse international school community.
A nursing qualification recognised by Swiss law is required. Previous experience in emergency and paediatric nursing is highly desirable. The role requires excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and French. Prior knowledge of primary nursing and healthcare education for adolescents will be considered a strong asset. It is important that the post holder is always aware of Child Protection guidelines and observes a professional distance from students whilst still developing effective working and caring relationships.
