For Business Development professionals who are looking for a forward thinking, fast moving business to be part of, this is an ideal opportunity. Based in our Guernsey office, this position involves relationship building, stakeholder management, and creativity. You will be part of a global BD team (as part of the wider BD&M team), working with your colleagues who are in London, Cayman, Jersey and Guernsey.

The principal accountabilities are:

  • To assist Heads of Business Development with the coordination, rollout and delivery of business development plans, campaigns and projects on a group-wide, jurisdictional, practice area and individual basis.
  • To provide appropriate support to fee earners, support staff and members of the Business Development team as required.
  • To coordinate all local BD events and support cross-jurisdiction events where necessary, from initial planning through to execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • BD Research / List Building/CRM; undertaking desktop research to identify new targets in a given jurisdiction/sector, maintaining of target lists/watch lists using CRM, being a champion for CRM best practice amongst fee earners and Business Assistants.
  • Trip Preparation / BD Meeting preparation; working with the Business Assistant team to produce itineraries for overseas BD trips, under the direction of the relevant BD Manager ensuring meeting materials are well prepared, timely and relevant.
  • Legal Directories: working with the relevant fee earners / BD Manager to produce list of potential matters for inclusion, producing a first draft of all documents for BD&M review, running the legal directory submission process including managing timescales and uploading documents.
  • Event Management: ensuring invitations/reminders/thank-yous are accurate and sent in a timely fashion, liaising with operations to ensure room set up and catering, liaising with fee earners to ensure materials are produced on time and on-brand, communication with comms team as appropriate.
  • BD Financial Administration: maintaining budgets, processing BD invoices and related expenses, spotting and correcting anomalies.
  • Business Financial Reporting / Monthly Reporting / Client Reporting: preparing reports on clients detailing spend / practice groups / key contacts etc, producing monthly (or other) reports on the efficacy of BD activities, ad-hoc Business Information reporting.
  • Pitches / Proposals / Brochures: preparing to completion simple pitch and presentation documents, preparing the first draft of more complex documents, undertaking client/target research in relation to pitch / proposal opportunities.
  • Merchandise: in liaison with the Group Head of Marketing and Communications maintaining a stock of suitable marketing merchandise.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Candidates will be educated to degree level, and will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Experience gained in a business development and or marketing team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Highly organised, methodical approach and excellent attention to detail.
  • Highly numerate with basic analytical and reporting skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage a considerable number of on-going activities.
  • The ability to persuade and influence, using concrete examples to make a point.
  • IT skills including MS Office Suite, database applications and desk top publishing.
  • Team player with an ability to work effectively with others.
