Collard Group Ltd is one of the UK’s leading demolition contractors and a major privately owned waste management company in the south of England. Since 1994, the business has grown into a one-stop enabling partner for construction projects nationwide, as well as a trusted provider of waste and recycling services for domestic and commercial customers. Collard delivers sustainable demolition solutions from consultancy through to completion, including hazardous waste management, soft strip, structural demolition, earthworks, and land remediation. The company operates nine recycling centers that use innovative processes and advanced plant to divert over 1 million tonnes of waste from landfill each year.
This is a full-time, on-site Apprentice HGV Driver role. We have 3 opportunities available, 1 in each of our depots in Eversley, Chilton & Nursling. The Apprentice HGV Driver will support the safe and efficient transport of waste, aggregates, and materials between customer sites, recycling centers, and other company locations. Day-to-day activities include:
- Assisting experienced drivers with vehicle checks
- Learning to operate HGVs in compliance with road safety and company procedures
- Helping with loading and unloading materials
- Maintaining accurate delivery and collection records
- Following route plans
- Communicating effectively with dispatch and site teams
Under supervision, the apprentice will build skills in waste management logistics, customer service at collection and delivery points, and basic vehicle care and cleanliness.
Qualifications:
- Interest in developing professional driving skills, including safe HGV operation, vehicle checks, and adherence to road safety regulations
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a safety-first mindset when working on construction, demolition, and recycling sites
- Good communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with drivers, site staff, and customers
- Basic numeracy and record-keeping skills to support completion of delivery notes, logs, and route documentation
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and adapt to different site environments
- Eligibility and willingness to work toward the required HGV driving qualifications and apprenticeships as defined by the training program
- Full or provisional UK driving license essential; previous experience in transport, construction, or waste management is beneficial but not essential
- Commitment to learning, following instructions, and upholding Collard Group’s standards for safety, sustainability, and customer service
