Collard Group Ltd

Company Description

Collard Group Ltd is one of the UK's leading demolition contractors and among the largest privately owned waste management companies in the south of England. Since 1994, the business has grown into a one-stop partner for construction projects nationwide, serving both domestic and commercial customers. The company delivers sustainable demolition and enabling works, including hazardous waste management, soft strip, structural demolition, earthworks, and land remediation. Collard operates nine recycling centres using innovative processes and advanced plant to divert over one million tonnes of waste from landfill each year. Inert waste from construction and demolition is recycled into premium aggregates and award-winning ready-mix concrete, supporting circular, low-carbon construction.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Apprentice HGV Driver role based in Eversley but could be from any of our operating centres. The apprentice will support experienced drivers with the safe operation of heavy goods vehicles, including loading, securing, transporting, and unloading waste, aggregates, and other materials to and from Collard sites and customer locations. Day-to-day tasks include assisting with vehicle inspections, completing basic maintenance checks, following route plans, and adhering to all traffic, health and safety, and environmental regulations. The role involves working closely with site teams, weighbridge operators, and transport coordinators to ensure timely collections and deliveries, accurate documentation, and professional customer service. As part of the apprenticeship, the learner will receive structured training, mentoring, and classroom-based learning to achieve the relevant HGV driving qualifications and licenses.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to develop core driving skills for heavy goods vehicles, including safe maneuvering, vehicle control, and awareness on public highways and construction sites.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work within set procedures, and learn operational processes related to waste management, recycling, and construction logistics.
  • Strong attention to detail for vehicle checks, load security, record keeping, and compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with drivers, site operatives, supervisors, and customers in a professional manner.
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills to complete training materials, logbooks, delivery notes, and digital records accurately.
  • Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious approach, with a positive attitude toward learning and working in a physically active, outdoor environment.
  • Eligibility to undertake an HGV apprenticeship; a valid UK driving licence and clean driving record are highly beneficial.
  • Previous experience in construction, logistics, or a similar practical role is an advantage but not required; full training will be provided.
