We are seeking an experienced and motivated Estimator to join our Machine Shop team. Working closely with Purchasing, Production Control, and Sales Order Processing teams, the successful candidate will be responsible for estimating, quoting, and securing subcontract machining and metal finishing work. This role is ideal for someone with a strong engineering and manufacturing background who is commercially aware, customer focused, and confident working within a fast-paced engineering environment. The position reports directly to the Group Machine Shop Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and interpret customer requirements from CAD drawings, technical specifications, and computer models
  • Prepare detailed quotations, proposals, and bids for subcontract machining and metal finishing work
  • Liaise with Purchasing and Machine Shop personnel to ensure accurate costing and lead times
  • Review costs and acceptable margins with the Group Machine Shop Manager
  • Decide whether to bid on specific Requests for Quotation (RFQs)
  • Support Production Control and Sales Order Processing teams with new order entry onto the ERP system
  • Ensure all customer requirements and BOM structures are accurately captured within the ERP system
  • Support Business Development activities by providing customer feedback on work in progress and delivery schedules
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external customers

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven engineering background through apprenticeship, academic qualification, or time-served experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in one or more of the following:
    • Engineering
    • Manufacturing
    • Estimating
    • Engineering Business Development
  • Good understanding of CNC machining and manufacturing processes
  • Ability to read and interpret CAD and engineering drawings
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and general software literacy
  • Well organised, proactive, and self-motivated approach
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work effectively under pressure in a busy environment
  • Candidates should live within approximately one hour commuting distance of the site
