Job Purpose: This role is instrumental in the company’s efforts to grow sales and market share by its focus on veterinary recommendation and Brand Recommended Most Often (BRMO) leadership, by providing education, and technical and business development support to the profession, and by bringing veterinary insights to the company. Under the leadership of the country PVA Manager, the A-PVA-M owns the Professional Consulting Veterinarian team to implement the UK & IE PVA strategy focused on all parts of the veterinary profession (practicing vets in corporate and independent practice, vet students, nurses, receptionists), and internal audiences and accomplishes the yearly goals set by the PVA-M.

What you will do:

  • Manage the UK & IE Professional Consulting Veterinarians.
  • Set individual objectives for a team of 2.5 PCVs, and provide support with prioritisation, mentoring, and developing the team to meet their important metrics.
  • Allocate the team’s time and effort in ways that deliver the best return on time spent.
  • Improve the technical skills of the field sales team and further develop their expertise through ongoing training and in-field mentoring.
  • Influence practice success through nutritional and business education, prioritising support based on company strategy.
  • Implement engagement activities at veterinary universities in their geographies, including leading student reps and providing education activities.
  • In collaboration with PVA-M, champion the European professional digital initiatives leading to a full implementation of Hills4Me digital tools.
  • Run the country’s technical helpline (50% of PCV role), including setting and achieving helpline KPIs and leading sensitive cases for the country Vet Corporates.
  • Lead & coordinate PVA involvement in cross-functional work.
  • Be the PVA lead on the VKA agile team, co-developing the strategy and the day-to-day results for PVA.
  • Own and lead the PVA relationship with all Vet Corporates Head Office teams, working closely with the Regional and Country Vet Corporate Managers.
  • Develop a strong external network with key clinic and head office contacts.
  • Devise and complete a 6-month engagement & education calendar for each of the Top 5 VKAs, along with relevant critical metrics.
  • Identify appropriate customer feedback to ensure on track.
  • Leverage PVA-M where required to increase reach and influence with the VKA Clinical boards and deploy PCVs at clinic or HO level where appropriate.
  • Support the SEL sales team as a PCV dedicating 20% of your time to their needs.
  • Align with SEL Field Sales Manager on technical and development needs of SEL team and devise coaching plan.
  • Implement Territory Manager and other internal collaborator technical education to ensure best in class field team known for their scientific expertise.
  • Oversee execution of external educational programs, such as webinars and CPD events in line with commercial priorities and budget guidelines, in partnership with FSMs.
  • Build strong, lasting, and effective relationships with UK professional associations, Key Thought Leaders (KTLs) and specialists in private practice.
  • Manage veterinary university programmes, including management of student reps, leading all aspects of PCV educational activities in university.
  • Collaborate & support the Nurse Program Specialist (NPS) with priorities for nurse and receptionist engagement.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Basic qualifications include: DVM (or equivalent country qualification).
  • Preferred qualifications include: MBA, Diplomate or equivalent experience in Internal Medicine or Nutrition.

Expected Areas of Skills:

  • Proven experience in a veterinary practice (or a similar job).
  • Has built or can quickly build a strong network in the veterinary community.
  • Knowledge of the pet food business.
  • Experience in Hill’s or other commercial business.
  • Business and practice management experience.
  • Proficient in English, additional language(s) a plus.

  • Reporting manager: PVA-M UK & IE.
  • Supervises the 2.5 x PCVs.
  • Internal customers: Marketing, customer development, FSM’s, VKA Manager(s).
  • External customers: veterinarians, nurses, vet and trade associations, academia, veterinary researchers.

Travel Requirements:

  • Encouraged percentage of travel: Up to 50%.
