The Data Services Tester is responsible for validating the accuracy, reliability, performance, and integrity of enterprise data platforms. This role ensures that data pipelines, transformations, lakehouse structures, and analytical outputs meet business, regulatory, and technical requirements before release to production.

You will work closely with Data Engineers, BI Developers, Analytics Consultants, and Business Stakeholders to assure end-to-end data quality across ingestion, processing, and reporting layers. This role is critical to ensuring trusted data, reliable insights, and confident decision-making. As data platforms scale and complexity grows, the Data Services Tester acts as the final quality gate between raw data and business-critical insight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Validate and Test end-to-end data pipelines, including ingestion, transformation and storage artefacts
  • Perform data reconciliation between source systems and target datasets
  • Test Microsoft Fabric pipelines, notebooks, and orchestration workflows
  • Validate schema evolution, incremental loads, and data freshness
  • Test complex transformations implemented in SQL, notebooks, Power Query and DAX
  • Validate business rules, aggregations, calculations, and derived metrics
  • Perform functional and integration testing across multiple data layers
  • Test Power BI datasets, reports and dashboards for accuracy and consistency
  • Validate DAX measures, calculated columns and Power Query logic
  • Ensure row-level security (RLS) and semantic model integrity where applicable
  • Conduct performance testing on developed workflows
  • Identify bottlenecks in SQL, DAX and orchestration layers
  • Validate scalability and refresh performance for large datasets
  • Test APIs used for data ingestion, integration or consumption
  • Support and validate CI/CD pipelines for data and analytics deployments
  • Contribute to test automation strategies where appropriate
  • Create and maintain Data Test Strategies, test plans and test cases
  • Define testing standards, entry/exit criteria, and quality metrics
  • Support data governance initiatives by ensuring trusted, auditable data outputs
  • Clearly document defects, risks, and recommendations for remediation

  • Advanced SQL (complex joins, window functions, performance tuning)
  • Lakehouse architectures and Delta tables
  • Microsoft Fabric pipelines, notebooks and orchestration testing
  • Data reconciliation and validation techniques
  • DAX measures and calculations
  • Dataset refresh and performance validation
  • Integration and functional testing methodologies alongside performance testing and optimisation techniques
  • Awareness of CI/CD processes for data platforms
  • Test strategy creation and execution in data environments

  • Strong understanding of data testing principles
  • Experience testing large, complex datasets across multiple systems
  • Ability to design tests that validate both technical correctness and business outcomes
  • Experience in professional services or consulting environments

  • Test automation tools for data and analytics platforms
  • Understanding of regulatory or audit-driven data requirements
  • Experience with Agile / Scrum delivery models
