Responsibilities
- Provide a specialist clinical psychology service to children and families within the MK Specialist CAMHS.
- Conduct high-quality direct (assessment and therapeutic) and indirect (consultative, advisory and evaluative) specialist psychological interventions with substantial professional responsibility.
- Undertake psychologically based risk assessment and risk management for relevant clients and advise on the psychological aspects of risk to the multidisciplinary team.
- Ensure clinical effectiveness of own practice and service functioning by undertaking audit, research and development activities relevant to the service area.
- Support the leadership structure within the team through participation in clinical risk management, audit, service evaluation and research.
Qualifications
Essential
- Current registration with HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist.
- Doctoral level training in clinical/counselling psychology, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, at least two distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, accredited by the BPS.
- Post-doctoral training in one or more specialised areas of psychological practice (e.g. CBT, Behaviour Therapy, DBT) and family-based interventions such as parenting work.
Desirable
- Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
- Post-qualification DBT Intensive Training and/or trauma training.
Experience
Essential
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings (outpatient, community, primary care, and inpatient).
- Experience working with a wide variety of client groups across the life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity, maintaining professionalism in highly emotive and distressing situations.
- Demonstrated additional specialist training/experience, including practice as a specialist clinical/counselling psychologist, regular supervision from a qualified Clinical Psychologist, or alternative criteria agreed by the Consultant Lead Clinical Psychologist.
- Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.

- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients.
Knowledge
Essential
- Expertise in complex psychological assessment, intervention and management methods requiring sustained concentration.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to convey complex, clinically sensitive information to clients, families, carers and professional colleagues.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
- Doctoral-level knowledge of psychological research methodology, research design and complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within clinical psychology.
- Knowledge of child/young people legislation, safeguarding children and its implications for clinical practice and professional management.
Desirable
- Knowledge of specialised psychological therapies for difficult-to-treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnoses, additional disabilities) and ability to conduct ADHD assessments.
- High-level knowledge of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
- Knowledge of legislation relating to the client group and mental health.
