We are recruiting a motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Health & Justice team at HMP Feltham B. You will support the mental health needs of patients in secure environments and contribute to promoting health and well-being. The service operates a 7-day week model to ensure healthcare is managed to high standards. Our motto is Caring NOT Judging, and we work in partnership with the criminal justice system and other agencies to provide high-quality primary care and mental health services that support social inclusion.

Feltham B is a Category C male adult prison aligning its services to the New Model of Care (NMOC). The NMOC promotes patient safety and wellbeing from reception into custody through to release, ensuring continuity of care, appropriate risk management, and seamless handover to the community or another establishment. The NMOC is structured around four core teams (pillars):

  • Early Days in Custody (EDIC) – immediate health, mental health, and substance misuse needs at reception and early in custody.
  • Planned Care (PlC) – ongoing, structured care for patients with identified health, mental health, and substance misuse needs.
  • Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) – timely assessment and response to acute and urgent presentations.
  • Release and Transfer (RT) – safe, coordinated transition on release or transfer, with robust community and service communication.

This model supports a whole-pathway, patient-centred approach underpinned by multidisciplinary working, clear governance and shared accountability.

The post holder will contribute to the Occupational Therapy programme, assist with the development of group provision within the wider prison, supervise students, and provide specialist OT assessments and interventions. You will offer advice and consultation within an MDT approach and engage in clinical and interpersonal activities to deliver high-quality care in a challenging environment.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Current valid registration as an Occupational Therapist
  • Experience in relevant forensic mental health services or equivalent
  • Experience working with service users with neurodevelopmental needs (e.g., LD, ADHD, social communication disorders, ASD) is beneficial
  • Ability to supervise students and contribute to group provision
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team in a busy custodial setting
