An exciting opportunity has arisen for two part-time Band 7 CAMHS Clinical/Counselling Psychologists or CBT Therapists to join the Emotion Disorders Team (EDT) at Westminster CAMHS. The post offers the chance to work within a highly skilled and dynamic multi-disciplinary team supporting young people and their families with a wide range of emotional and behavioural difficulties. Psychology is a well-established and integral part of the team, where specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention are highly valued and central to the service approach.

The post holder will deliver specialist psychological assessments and both individual and group interventions for children and young people referred to the Westminster CAMHS Emotional Disorders sub-team. The primary therapeutic modalities will be Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and third-wave CBT approaches (including ACT and CFT). Experience in additional psychological models is desirable, as more complex presentations may require an integrative approach. The role may also include providing supervision to colleagues such as Assistant Psychologists.

The Westminster CAMHS service is based at Woodfield Road, and is well connected by public transport. The team is well established and is staffed by a large multi-disciplinary team of clinicians with a wide range of skills trained to clinically think from a diverse range of therapeutic approaches. We aim to provide an accessible, flexible and responsive local service for patients and professionals working with children in the area using the whole range of therapeutic interventions, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, systemic and family therapy, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, Psychoeducation, DBT therapy groups and Positive Behaviour Support.

Westminster CAMHS consists of four main sub-teams: Emotional Disorders Team; Neurodevelopmental Team; Enhanced Treatment Team, and Early Intervention Team. Our service also provides a range of supervision opportunities and is committed to provide continued professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist psychological assessments for children and young people referred to the Emotional Disorders team, working collaboratively with young people and their families throughout the assessment process.
  • Formulate and implement evidence-based psychological treatment and management plans for a broad range of mental health difficulties, using a psychologically informed framework that promotes shared understanding and collaborative goal-setting with young people and families.
  • Deliver specialised cognitive behavioural interventions, including CBT and third-wave approaches (ACT, CFT), for clients presenting with severe, complex, or enduring psychological difficulties, both individually and in group formats.
  • Develop and implement a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families, and groups, drawing on multiple explanatory models and maintaining flexible, evolving formulations that respond to changing clinical needs.
  • Act as case manager for an agreed caseload, coordinating care across the network.
  • Evaluate and make informed decisions about treatment options, integrating theoretical and therapeutic models while considering complex historical, developmental, and systemic factors influencing the child, family, or group.
  • Use Routine Outcome Measures (ROMs) in a meaningful and collaborative way to support the young person's therapeutic journey and inform clinical decision-making.
  • Undertake risk assessment and risk management for children and young people, and provide guidance to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk.
  • Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and treatment of clients whose difficulties are managed through psychologically informed care plans.
  • Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, and consultation to colleagues and the wider MDT, contributing directly to formulation, diagnosis, and treatment planning for children and young people.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a psychologically informed framework of understanding and care across the service and partner agencies.
  • Act as care coordinator where appropriate, taking responsibility for initiating, planning, and reviewing psychological care plans with young people, families, carers, referrers, and the wider network.
  • Refer clients to other statutory and non-statutory services as appropriate to their needs.
  • Communicate complex and sensitive information regarding assessment, formulation, and treatment plans in a skilled and compassionate manner, and monitor progress throughout uni- and multi-disciplinary care.
