Department: Faculty of Creativity

Responsibilities:

  • Setting targets for learners through the college’s Tutorial Programme.
  • Participating in the planning and development of the college curriculum.
  • Attending other Course Teams and college meetings, committees and working groups as appropriate.
  • Undertaking the administrative duties necessary to ensure the efficient organisation and running of the courses relating to the post.
  • Maintaining course files, learner profiles and course/learner records as required by the college and external bodies.
  • Complying with the quality assurance requirements of the college and of validating and other external bodies.
  • Providing information for college management, the Student Records Department, External Verifiers and other external bodies as necessary.
  • Liaising with other faculties and departments and with external bodies as required by the Director of Curriculum.
  • Organising and supervising learner visit programmes and work placements including, where appropriate, developing and maintaining links with employers.
  • Acting as a personal tutor for learners and offering guidance and support as appropriate.
  • Processing learners’ applications and interviewing and selecting learners.
  • Involvement in publicity and marketing activities, including promoting courses relating to the post and promoting the college and its courses in general.
  • Contributing as appropriate to the effective implementation of college policies and procedures.
  • Seeking to achieve ongoing improvement in your performance as a lecturer, including participation in the college’s staff appraisal scheme.
  • Participating as appropriate in staff development courses and activities.
  • Keeping abreast of developments in the fields relating to the post, including income generating opportunities, and advising the Director of Curriculum accordingly.
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties as required by the Principal or Director of Curriculum.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise:

  • Essential Criteria:
  • Level 3 or equivalent in IT.
  • Relevant Higher Academic/Vocational qualification in IT.
  • Teaching qualification (If you are not in possession of a teaching qualification as at the date of employment, you will be required to obtain a PGCE within 2 years of this date).
  • GCSE English at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent.
  • GCSE Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent.
  • Documented evidence of appropriate Professional Development.
  • Three years relevant industrial experience in the sector.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with students and colleagues.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Creative flair and innovative practical skills.
  • Relevant ICT skills.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly.
  • Desirable Criteria:
  • Relevant teaching experience.
  • A good understanding of relevant issues in post 16 education.
  • A proven track record of high levels of learner attainment.
  • Awareness of key performance indicators.
  • Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities.
  • Evidence of effective tracking and monitoring of learner performance.
  • Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of young people.
  • Sound understanding of Digital Literacy.
  • Willingness to drive a college minibus.
  • Willingness to contribute to develop extra-curricular activities.

Welsh Language Requirements:

  • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1 Desirable.
  • Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 0/1 Desirable.
