Coleg Sir Gâr is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Higher Education Lecturer to join our Animal Studies team based at Pibwrwlyd Campus. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality Higher Education teaching across Animal Science and Animal Behaviour and Welfare programmes, support learners as a personal tutor, and work in partnership with University of Wales Trinity St David. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire ambitious learners and contribute to excellent progression outcomes within a thriving educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake the teaching, assessment and co-ordination of programmes of study leading to qualifications within Animal science from Level 4 to Level 6;
- Take on the role of a Learning Area Programme Lead for one cohort and contribute to the management of this subject area;
- Provide support, as a member of the team in the administration and resource development within the area;
- Assist in the provision of Animal science through liaison with industry and in the potential development of commercial courses;
- Contribute to the quality of provision through the internal verification system;
- Prepare relevant teaching material for assigned subjects;
- Prepare resource materials and facilities in support of the assigned teaching;
- Undertake all assessment activity to assigned subjects;
- Ensure all classroom and practical training facilities comply with health and safety and other legislative requirements;
- Liaise with third party stakeholders as identified by faculty management, including sector skills councils, HE institutions, industry bodies, employers etc;
- Organise work placement opportunities and monitor the learner experience.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise:
Essential Criteria:
- Relevant degree or equivalent Higher Education/Advanced qualification;
- Teaching qualification (If you are not in possession of a teaching qualification as at the date of employment, you will be required to obtain a PGCE within 2 years of this date);
- GCSE English at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent;
- GCSE Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent;
- Documented evidence of appropriate Professional Development;
- Relevant practical/industrial experience in animal sciences;
- Relevant teaching experience;
- Good literacy and numeracy skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing;
- Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills;
- Ability to work harmoniously with learners and colleagues;
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines;
- Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly;
- A current driving licence and use of a car;
- willingness to drive a college minibus.
Desirable Criteria:
- Business experience in the land based industries;
- A good understanding of relevant issues in post 16 education;
- A proven track record of high levels of learner attainment;
- Awareness of key performance indicators;
- Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities;
- Evidence of effective tracking and monitoring of learner performance;
- Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of young people;
- Sound understanding of digital literacy;
- willingness to contribute to develop extra-curricular activities.
Welsh Language Requirements:
- Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1 Desirable;
- Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 0/1 Desirable.
