Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Apprenticeship Coach in Hospitality & Catering to join our dedicated Junior Apprenticeship team at Pibwrlwyd Campus. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to young people aged 14-16 who attend College as part of their statutory education programme. As a key member of the team, you will provide high-quality pastoral care, guidance and mentoring, enabling learners to overcome barriers to learning and achieve successful outcomes.

About the Role

As Junior Apprenticeship Coach, you will provide dedicated pastoral and in-class support to learners on the Junior Apprenticeship Programme in Hospitality & Catering. This is a specialist role within a compulsory education framework. Learners remain on the roll of their home school and attend College as part of a statutory programme. The role carries enhanced responsibilities in relation to safeguarding, attendance, behaviour management and learner engagement.

You will work closely with curriculum staff, the Junior Apprenticeship Lecturer, schools, parents/guardians and the Local Authority to ensure learners receive cohesive and holistic support. You will play a central role in early intervention, attendance monitoring, positive behaviour management, personal development delivery and transition planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing one-to-one mentoring, half-termly progress reviews and target-setting sessions
  • Delivering personal development and tutorial sessions to Junior Apprentice groups
  • Supporting learners in-class to access the curriculum and engage positively in learning
  • Monitoring attendance and implementing positive behaviour management strategies
  • Maintaining accurate records of interventions, progress and outcomes
  • Acting as a key liaison between learners, parents/guardians, schools and external agencies
  • Supporting safeguarding processes in line with College policy
  • Identifying and supporting at-risk learners, implementing early intervention strategies
  • Supervising learners during unstructured times to ensure safety and wellbeing
  • Supporting work placement arrangements, including risk assessments and monitoring
  • Contributing to learner voice activities and achievement of key performance indicators
  • Working collaboratively with curriculum and wellbeing teams to enhance the learner experience

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree or equivalent
  • Relevant Level 3 or above qualifications
  • GCSE English at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
  • GCSE Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
  • Experience and understanding of working in a Trauma Informed way
  • Good communicator
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work harmoniously with colleagues
  • Good presentational skills
  • Ability to relate to target group
  • Good computer literacy skills

Desirable Criteria:

  • PGCE qualification
  • Relevant experience of working with young people
  • Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of young people
  • Experience of delivering teaching and learning
  • Experience of effectively managing challenging behaviour
  • Ability to travel across campuses

Welsh Language Requirements:

  • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1 Desirable
  • Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 0/1 Desirable
